Job description

As a Staff/Project Accountant at Schuff Steel, you will play an important role in the accounting department by supporting month-end close, reviewing project budgets and profitability with the project management teams, and having the ability to perform assigned accounting activities with exceptional attention to detail, while managing tight deadlines and operating under SOX controls.


Job Overview

  • Prepare and post journal entries into the general ledger.
  • Assist with the intercompany accounting process, including ensuring efficiency of transactions and accurate posting.
  • Analyze and reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy of financial statements.
  • Review and analyze both production overhead and general administration departments' accounts for coding accuracy, including comparison to forecasted and budgeted results.

Project Accounting Duties

  • Review project cost budgets for Schuff Steel office(s), working with project managers as needed.
  • Prepare ASC-606 revenue recognition analysis for new contracts.
  • Review weekly and monthly profitability and variances on projects.
  • Participate in weekly financial meeting with project managers and operations management.
  • Prepare, file, and pay sales and use taxes for multiple jurisdictions.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Education/Training

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university

Work Experience

  • 1-3+ years of experience in accounting
  • Experience with project accounting in a construction environment, a plus
  • Experience in a SOX environment, a plus

Software & Technology

The position will require the frequent use and knowledge of MS Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, Oracle Cloud, Concur, FloQast (or similar), and Planful.
