Primary Responsibilities: Lab Technician 

  • Level 1
    • Perform all routine and STAT testing in Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry and Special Chemistry according to laboratory SOP’s under medical technologist/ supervisor supervision.
    • Perform and document routine and preventive instrument maintenance according to laboratory SOP’s. Alert supervisor/manager to instrument or product failures. 
    • Perform and document calibration and test Quality Control samples according to laboratory SOP’s under medical technologist/ supervisor supervision. 
    • Responsible for critical results notification and documentation.
    • Utilize LIS for entering and verifying patient results and Quality control under supervision.
    • Assist in maintaining inventory.
    • Document and maintain records/paperwork associated with workbench assignment.
    • Assist with sample receipt and accessioning if needed.
    • Adhere to all safety procedures and utilize all available PPE in completing tasks.
    • Monitor pending logs to ensure all testing is complete.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Level 2
    • All responsibilities listed for Level 1 plus…
    • Keep reagent Inventory sufficient for use. Document details of Reagent inventory for all lot numbers. 
    • Perform new lot validation under supervision. 
  • Level 3

    • Assist in weekly review of Levy Jennings charts for all shifts and trends.
    • Assist Medical technologist with routine instrument maintenance.
    • Test Proficiency survey samples in the lab section assigned under supervision.
    • Provide direction, training, and feedback on routine laboratory procedures, as assigned.
    • Perform and documents calibration and test Quality Control samples according to laboratory SOP’s.
  • Lead
    • All responsibilities listed for Level 1, 2, and 3 plus…
    • Assist with LIS or new method/test validation testing.
    • Review and ensure test calibration documentations are kept in respective logbooks with signature. Report back to leadership.
    • Assist the supervisor/manager in performing and documenting New Lot number validation for all reagents used in the assigned section of the Laboratory. 
    • Assist supervisor/manager in placing new lot number of Control Test values, range, and validation, if applicable.
    • Oversee documentation for daily, weekly, and monthly check offs. 
    • Assist technologist/supervisor with LIS or new method/test validation. 
    • Assist in additional tasks as assigned by supervisor. 

Requirements 

  • Level 1: 
    • High School diploma 
    • Current New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License 
    • 0-2 years of clinical Laboratory experience  
  • Level 2: 
    • Level 1 plus 
    • 2+ years of clinical Laboratory experience preferred but not required. 
  • Level 3: 
    • Level 1 and 2 plus
    • Associate degree 
    • 4+ years of relevant Laboratory experience 
  • Lead tech:
    • Level 1, 2 and 3 plus 
    • 5+ years of clinical Laboratory experience 
    • Strong Skills in the MS Office Suite of applications
    • Able to assist managing multiple activities and projects and meet strict timelines and deadlines. 
    • Extensive bench level experience in Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, and other lab areas Preferred.
