PURPOSE STATEMENT:
Pharmacy interns currently enrolled in a professional pharmacy program will have the opportunity to concentrate on patient counseling, customer service, over the counter medications, immunizations, vaccinations, MTM, point of care testing, and disease state management.
SIGNIFICANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs all duties under the supervision of a registered pharmacist or designated pharmacist preceptor
  • Takes all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures
  • Inputs prescription information into the pharmacy Rx program, transmits online adjudicated pharmacy claims, and generates prescription bottle labels.
  • Obtains drug products, counts, and distributes them in the appropriate containers, labels those containers and presents them to a registered pharmacist for review and approval
  • Offers advice and consultation to customers and health care professionals regarding prescription knowledge, drug therapy, and health related products and concerns
  • Actively participates in company initiatives to increase pharmacy profitability
  • Complies with all laws, regulations, and standards of ethical conduct.
  • Performs all job duties with a friendly, positive, and team-oriented approach.
  • Answers telephone timely and accurately
  • Checks out customers at the cash register
  • Provides customer service that exceeds the customer's expectations
  • Reverses insurance claims and returns stock to inventory for prescriptions not picked up by customers
  • Generates and transmits the inventory order and checks in the received order daily
  • Responsible for inventory management to include correcting perpetual inventory amounts when necessary and pulling out-of-date and excess inventory off medication shelves
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Maintains required licenses or certifications in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Complies with all Company policies, procedures, rules, and standards
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all patient information in accordance with HIPPA standards.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
  • The Pharmacy Intern reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  • Ability to adapt to changes readily and positively in schedule specifications, and work priorities as the business and customer needs demand
  • Ability to cooperate with others and work as part of a team

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school or equivalent (Required)
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college of pharmacy (Required)
  • Oklahoma Pharmacy Intern License (Required)

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Constantly operates a computer program related to work required and computer printer.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Lifting of items up to 50 lbs.
