We are looking for an Assistant Director of Engineering to join Delano Miami Beach.
JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the general guidance of the Director of Engineering, the Assistant Director of Engineering supports the planning and execution of maintenance and safety objectives across the property. This role assists in overseeing the engineering team, ensuring that all building systems, equipment, and infrastructure are operating efficiently and safely. The Assistant Director helps coordinate daily operations, supports preventive maintenance programs, and ensures timely completion of repairs and projects. In addition, this position plays a key role in upholding the property's appearance and functionality, contributing to a safe and comfortable environment for both guests and staff.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist the Director of Engineering in planning, coordinating, and executing maintenance and engineering operations across the property.
  • Supervise engineering team members, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance and service requests.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, and fire/life safety equipment.
  • Oversee contractors and third-party vendors to ensure compliance with project scope, quality standards, timelines, and budget.
  • Support the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategies for facility improvements and sustainability initiatives.
  • Monitor and manage budgets for maintenance, repairs, and engineering related capital projects. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain engineering procedures, service logs, and maintenance documentation to ensure operational continuity.
  • Provide technical expertise on facility systems, infrastructure upgrades, and energy management opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • We recognize we are in the hospitality industry and that may require us to provide lateral service. We will on occasion call for each individual in the team to on a routine basis perform various related tasks as needed in the spirit of providing exceptional guest service.

Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or equivalent education required. Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building systems maintenance or engineering, luxury hotel experience and local market experience
  • In depth knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices and the ability to develop and manage maintenance programs.
  • Skilled in planning and managing capital improvement projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and contractor oversight.
  • Familiarity with local building codes, OSHA regulations, environmental laws, and safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of energy conservation practices, sustainability initiatives, and building automation systems is essential.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and analyze operational and capital budgets related to engineering and maintenance.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, managing workloads, training staff, and fostering a culture of accountability and performance.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing technical issues and implementing effective solutions quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with cross-functional teams, vendors, and senior leadership.
  • Proficient in building management systems (BMS), CMMS software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other industry related tools.
