Job description

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Utilities Coordinator to join our Infrastructure Practice in the Charlotte or Raleigh, NC office.

As a Senior Utilities Coordinator, you will perform utility coordination duties in planning, designing, contacting, and directing utility owners' relocation efforts as it pertains to proposed roadway and bridge improvement projects.  

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assist with the identification, communication, and resolution of utility conflicts on various types of infrastructure projects.
  • Develop Utilities by Others (UbO) Plans and utility designs based upon input from utility owners and project manager.
  • Type, format, and organize project documents, reports, specifications, and correspondence.
  • Create and maintain paper and electronic files.
  • Apply company Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines and procedures.
  • Apply NCDOT Quality Assurance (QA) Quality Control (QC) guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist with and conduct meetings and presentations.
  • Assist with the management and coordination of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations, schedules, and submittals.
  • Frequent verbal/written communication between project managers, clients, and utility owners to ensure project schedules are met and are compliant with federal, state, and local laws, in addition to all regulations required by the client.
  • Work independently, and with project team, to meet client's needs/objectives.
  • Review and perform QA/QC of utility company agreements, plans, specifications, cost estimates and invoices submitted by utility companies to assure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Perform utility records research, obtaining project utility company contacts, preparing contact ledgers and utility conflict tracking reports/matrices.
  • Assist with and prepare client deliverables, utility exhibits, project guides, project reviews, project invoices and expense reports as needed.
  • Travel for project site visits is required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the utility coordination industry, preferably NCDOT experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding civil transportation engineering design plans.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding utility installation and adjustment plans.
  • Ability to transition easily between multiple projects and tasks.
  • Basic MicroStation/Open Roads experience (required).
  • Position requires strong communication, both verbal and written, organization skills, attention to detail, scheduling and problem-solving skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • HS Diploma.
  • Associate's degree is a plus.
  • Valid Driver License and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
