Job description

Engineering Manager: R&D and Product Development
Overview
Magnasphere Corp., a leader in the design and manufacture of electrical sensors and switches, is seeking a driven and hands-on Engineering Manager to provide strategic and technical leadership for our small, cross-functional engineering team. This critical leadership role is responsible for the technical direction and successful delivery of next-generation magnetic sensing products, including magnetic proximity contacts, sensors, and electronic packages, for the security, industrial, government, and commercial sectors. The Manager will oversee the complete product lifecycle from concept through launch, focusing on technical innovation, design quality, and speed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leadership & Strategy
    • Provide strategic and hands-on technical direction for the engineering team, managing daily priorities while embodying the philosophy of designing exceptional products for the intrusion and industrial markets.
    • Manage, mentor --and recruit, upon need --a small team of development and production engineers.
    • Drive the expansion of the product line, requiring exploration and implementation of solid state, embedded, and analog packaged technologies.
  • Product Development & Execution
    • Own the end-to-end program strategy by defining feature baselines, schedules, budgets, critical paths, and technology risks from concept through launch.
    • Guide switch and sensor engineering efforts, including architecture, requirements derivation, and design.
    • Lead the complete product lifecycle from concept through manufacturing, including prototyping iterations and builds, and testing.
  • Manufacturing & Quality Assurance
    • Ensure a "design for manufacturing" focus during development.
    • Supervise drawing releases, tooling decisions, and vendor engagement to ensure manufacturing readiness and alignment with build milestones.
    • Oversee prototype build planning and execution in partnership with OEMs, factory teams, and engineering groups.
    • Develop, enhance, and manage quality processes and metrics, ensuring product compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., UL, CE, REACH, RoHS).
  • Problem Resolution & Technical Support
    • Lead efficient resolution of complex engineering challenges and production issues.
    • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and post-mortems for complex production or canary issues.
    • Serve as a high-level resource for complex troubleshooting, application/customer support (industrial/government), and the technical qualification of component vendors.
    • Maintain a hands-on working position within the R&D lab and (production) processes environment.
    • Share the duty and insights of the customer technical support experience (via phone/email/virtual).

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education, Skills, and Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent.
    • 6+ years of prior relevant experience in engineering with product development (or graduate degree with 4 years of prior relevant experience).
    • Minimum of 2+ years of experience supervising or leading technical teams or projects.
    • Experience in electrical/electronic product development is required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of magnetic sensing, mechanical switches, sensor design/packaging, analogue and digital electronics is highly valued.
    • Computer Literate (Windows, MS Office, Excel, etc.), familiarity with CAD (PCB design/layout), solid modeling software, producing the necessary documentation for manufacture.
    • Experience with coding, microcontrollers, and PLCs is a plus --as is experience with testing/certifying vendors (UL, TUV, ETL, etc).
    • a strong mechanical aptitude and basic reading of mechanical assembly drawings, electrical schematics, and other manufacturing documentation.
  • Other Requirements
    • Exceptional communication, organizational, and project management skills.
    • Candidate must have US Citizenship or US Residency and maintain a good historical standing with the federal law and authorities. (per DoD Manual 5200.08)
    • Ability to work on-site at the HQ facility with few exceptions
    • Maintain a continuous learning mindset for new standards and technologies.
    • Bi-monthly travel (on average) to the manufacturing site (N. Indiana)

Company Description

MAGNASPHERE Corp. was founded in 2002 with the purpose of providing superior performing magnetic contact sensor technology to the residential, commercial, industrial and federal government security markets.
