TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS) &TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES STEM & HEALTH SCIENCES provides academic support services and activities that will enhance students' academic skills and improve retention and graduation rates.
Each access program has a unique delivery model designed for expanding students learning environment to enhance their trajectory through middle school, high school, and institutions of higher education. The Office of Access & Student Success Programs comprise of the following local and national initiatives:

TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES (SSS)
The program provides academic support services and activities that will enhance students' academic skills and improve retention and graduation rates.
SSS provides structured academic support activities to students in order to enhance their academic skills, thereby improving significantly their retention and graduation rates. The enrolled students will be prepared appropriately for the successful completion of post-secondary education and will be motivated to pursue graduate studies.
TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES STEM & HEALTH SCIENCES
Provide a support system that serves as a pathway to graduation for FSU students majoring in science, technology, engineering, math, and health science. Our program helps you to recognize and develop your academic skills and career pathway to success. The services create opportunities for academic development, assist students with basic college requirements, and motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
Are you interested in helping your fellow Broncos succeed in their academics? If so, become a TRIO Peer Tutor.
Under the supervision of the Coordinator/Counselor of the Student Support Services Program, the peer tutor will:
  • Communicate frequently with Coordinator and/or other program staff regarding student. progress and performance.
  • Demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of student differences (diversity) .
  • Maintain proper records & documentation and confidentiality of information.
  • Assess tutee status to determine areas of strengths/weaknesses.
  • Schedule and conduct tutorial sessions, either one-on-one or small group tutoring.
  • Maintain and document contact with assigned tutees.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times and be a positive role model for students.
  • Attend scheduled meetings, training sessions, workshops, seminars designed to enhance tutor/tutee experience.
  • Other duties as directed by the Coordinator/Counselor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Must be an undergraduate or graduate student who has completed at least one semester.
  • Have an average of A's or B's in the course subject that will be tutored.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

Knowledge skills and abilities:
  • A basic knowledge of the subject(s) you desire to tutor
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well individually and with a team
  • Knowledgeable about test preparation, study habits, and time management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous tutoring experience is preferred, but not required.
