About the Role:
The 3rd Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in planning, directing, and managing the daily operations of the bakery department. This role helps lead a team to deliver high-quality baked goods, maintain excellent customer service, and ensure compliance with Vallarta Supermarkets’ standards. As a leader, you will help drive sales, support merchandising, and create a positive, safe, and engaging workplace.

What You’ll Do:
  • Customer Service: Greet all customers and team members with a smile while providing extraordinary service.
  • Team Support: Assist in training, delegating, and evaluating bakery personnel to maintain company standards for safety, performance, and customer care.
  • Operations: Support ordering, inventory, merchandising, and product rotation to ensure fresh, appealing bakery displays.
  • Product Quality: Prepare and decorate breads, cakes, and pastries, ensuring consistency in taste, appearance, and quality.
  • Leadership: Step in for the Bakery Manager or Assistant Bakery Manager as needed, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with policies.
  • Safety & Compliance: Promote a safe work environment by enforcing company and food safety policies, correcting unsafe acts, and monitoring equipment use.
  • Sales Growth: Suggestive selling, merchandising, and effective space management to increase sales and profitability.
  • Sanitation: Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow all health department regulations.

Physical Requirements:
  • Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).
  • Frequently bend neck/waist, squat, twist, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • Frequent grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine hand manipulation.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., flour, sugar, boxes).
  • Longest distance carried: 20 feet.
  • Work near bakery equipment and in environments with varying temperatures and humidity.
  • May be required to perform tasks at elevated levels (placing or retrieving items).

  • Knowledge of baking methods and ingredients (Mexican, Central American, and American pastries, etc.).
  • Experience using bakery equipment, ovens, and tools.
  • Ability to manage in a fast-paced environment and mentor others.
  • Basic computer and math skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced retail setting with direct customer interaction.
  • Exposure to perishable products, bakery equipment, and changing temperatures.
  • Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
