Job description

Title: Victim Witness Assistant
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Pay: $29.55 - $34.64 / hour
KMRG, LLC (KMRG) is a federal services company that hires talented professionals to support Government agencies and the communities they serve. We are hiring a Victim Witness Assistant to join our team and support the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO), Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Victim Witness Unit.
In this role, you will help victims and witnesses navigate court-related processes, provide information and resources, coordinate court support, maintain case calendars and tracking, process victim-witness administrative work, and support the Victim Witness Coordinator and Specialists.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Victim & Witness Support
  • Assist the Victim Witness Coordinator and Specialists with logistics for court events and victim-witness needs
  • Help prepare witnesses to testify by explaining court processes, procedures, and available resources
  • Provide information about victim impact statements and other victim-witness program resources
  • Provide victims with updates on schedule changes, defendant pleas, trial results, and incarceration status or term
  • Explain the Crime Victim Compensation Program, including eligibility and application procedures
  • Screen victim concerns and determine eligibility for services using prescribed criteria and USAO guidance
  • Provide routine information about community medical, psychological, legal, financial, shelter, childcare, and employment services
Court, Case & Administrative Support
  • Coordinate court support with Victim Witness team members and other support staff
  • Assist with processing fact witness vouchers
  • Maintain a calendar of active victim cases, including hearings, trial dates, and sentencing dates
  • Develop and maintain a tracking system for ongoing cases and keep the Coordinator and Specialists informed of case status
  • Enter daily work-product data into the Victim Service Tracking System (VSTS)
  • Research returned mail and coordinate the remailing of victim notification letters with the assigned Victim Witness Specialist

Resources & Program Support
  • Research and collect resources and information for crime victims and witnesses as needs arise
  • Assist with and provide support for National Crime Victim Rights Week
  • Work collaboratively with federal, state, county, and local entities as required to support victim-witness services
  • Handle increasingly complex assignments as training and experience progress

REQUIRED BACKGROUND
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or communication, and trauma-informed training
  • At least two years working in the field of victim services and criminal justice
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and with federal, state, county, and local entities
  • Strong ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Excellent ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact appropriately, demonstrate sensitivity to crime victims from diverse communities, exercise good judgment, and establish rapport with city, state, and federal entities
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

LOCATION
  • Primary place of performance is 615 Chestnut Street, Suite 1250, Philadelphia, PA 19106
  • Services are required at the USAO location; in rare instances, services may be required at an alternative location

SECURITY
  • Must have lived in the U.S. for 3 of the last 5 years or qualify through specified federal/military overseas service or dependent status
