SUMMARY

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented HSE Fall 2026 Intern to join our Health, Safety & Environmental team. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting HSE initiatives in a dynamic aerospace manufacturing and test environment while working alongside experienced HSE professionals.

The intern will contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Firefly's health, safety, and environmental programs. A key component of the internship will be ownership of a strategic HSE project tailored to the candidate's background and interests. Students with a stronger safety focus may support the development of Firefly's Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program, while those with an environmental focus may contribute to the development of an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

This role offers exposure to regulatory compliance, risk management, incident prevention, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement within the commercial space industry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • HSE Program Support
    • Assist with the implementation and continuous improvement of Firefly's health, safety, and environmental programs.
    • Support compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Participate in routine facility inspections, audits, and workplace assessments to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
    • Assist with the development and maintenance of HSE procedures, work instructions, and documentation.
  • Project Ownership
    • Lead or support a semester-long HSE improvement project aligned with the intern's academic background and career interests.
    • Safety-focused project option: Support development and implementation of Firefly's Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) Prevention Program through critical risk identification, data analysis, field observations, and preventive control development.
    • Environmental-focused project option: Support Firefly's ISO 14001 initiative by assisting with environmental aspect evaluations, process mapping, documentation updates, gap assessments, and continuous improvement activities.
    • Present project outcomes and recommendations to HSE leadership at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Risk Assessment & Incident Prevention
    • Assist in hazard identification and risk assessments for manufacturing, testing, and operational activities.
    • Participate in incident, near-miss, and injury investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
    • Support initiatives that strengthen Firefly's safety culture and employee engagement.
  • Training & Communication
    • Assist in the creation and revision of HSE training materials and awareness campaigns.
    • Collaborate with employees and leaders across multiple departments to promote safe and environmentally responsible work practices.
  • Compliance & Data Management
    • Help compile and analyze HSE metrics and performance indicators.
    • Support environmental reporting, recordkeeping, and permit-related activities.
    • Research emerging HSE regulations, industry trends, and best practices applicable to aerospace and advanced manufacturing operations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong interest in occupational safety, environmental management, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing and test environment.

Desired:

Candidates should preferably have a focus in one of the following areas

  • Previous internship, co-op, laboratory, or project experience related to HSE, manufacturing, engineering, or industrial operations.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and fundamental risk assessment methodologies.
  • Exposure to safety and environmental management systems, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or sustainability initiatives through coursework or projects.
  • Experience analyzing data and presenting findings using tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar software.
  • Interest in aerospace, advanced manufacturing, or high-reliability industries.
