Job description

Position Summary:
The New Graduate Nurse Residency program partnered with Vizient™ provides a (12) twelve-month orientation to bridge the gap between academia into practice. The combination of classroom and clinical orientation supports the novice nurse in their development to proficiency. Clinical and classroom orientation is facilitated by clinical nurse preceptors, Nurse Educators and Nurse Managers. The new graduate nurse will complete clinical orientation on their dedicated and hire unit. Hired unit opportunities include: Medical Unit, Surgical Unit, Maternal Child Health/Labor & Delivery, Critical Care Unit, Emergency Department, and CMC Operating Room.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Associate degree (ASN) in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor's degree (BSN) in Nursing preferred.
Experience
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice required.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Current South Carolina or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse (SCLLR) in good standing required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIH) certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment. Required for all RNs on the Telemetry and Acute Rehab units along with charge RNs on other inpatient units.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Staff will interact with patients, family, and visitors using AIDET; engages others in the team to uphold standards in behavior; actively involved in process improvement activities.
  • Consistently performs purposeful rounds on patients; completes care boards; responds to request in a timely manner; provides comfort and support to patients and families.
  • Ensures completion of bedside shift report.
  • Responsible for performing procedures such as those that are within the RNs scope of practice.
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
  • Utilize professional nursing judgment to individualize and prioritize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers, assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Precepts others once qualifications are met and provides clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff.
  • Act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.
  • Perform functions as noted above and generally with an assigned patient load, but the RN is ready and willing to assist co-workers with ANY nursing support function and across any case load, including other units that may not be the normal primary work assignment.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with co-workers, nursing colleagues, physicians, and department heads.
  • Effectively utilize strong organizational/time management skills.
  • Consistently display effective verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills required.
  • Formulates a plan for professional growth and development
  • Participate in 75% of council, team and or unit meetings as posted and assigned.
  • Demonstrate completion of expected competency, annual education and in-time education and as identified on time based on posted due date.
  • Exercise independent judgement in emergency situations.
