What are program managers?

Program managers are professionals responsible for overseeing multiple related projects within an organization, ensuring they align with strategic goals and deliver expected outcomes. They coordinate the efforts of project managers, manage resources, set priorities, and address risks and issues that arise across the program. Unlike project managers who focus on individual projects, program managers take a broader view, ensuring that all projects within a program work together effectively to achieve long-term business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Program Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Program Manager, you need strong project management skills, strategic planning abilities, and a relevant degree, often supported by certifications like PMP or Agile. Familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Project, Jira, or Asana is essential for tracking progress and managing resources. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you motivate teams and navigate complex stakeholder environments. These competencies ensure that programs are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals.

What are some common challenges Program Managers face when coordinating cross-functional teams?

Program Managers often encounter challenges such as aligning priorities across diverse teams, managing conflicting stakeholder expectations, and ensuring clear communication among departments with different workflows. Navigating these challenges requires strong negotiation and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to build consensus and foster collaboration. Successful Program Managers proactively establish regular check-ins, promote transparency, and adapt strategies to keep projects on track and maintain team engagement.

What Is the Job of a Program Manager?

As a program manager, your duties vary depending on the type of organization for which you work, but many of the responsibilities for this role are similar or overlap. You typically supervise numerous associates and analysts who help prepare data and assessments about current programming and how it can be improved. Job description

OneMagnify is an AI native, platform-enabled B2B digital agency operating at the intersection of data, technology, and creativity. We help complex organizations drive measurable business outcomes by building smarter customer experiences and delivering highly integrated solutions across digital, media, and technology. By combining deep industry expertise with advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, we enable our clients to make better decisions, move faster, and compete more effectively in dynamic markets.
Role Summary
As a Program Manager within OneMagnify's Enterprise Program Management Office (EPMO), you'll lead the delivery of complex, multi-workstream programs for enterprise clients. This role sits at the center of strategy, delivery, and client leadership-connecting teams, managing risk and economics, and keeping programs moving with clarity and confidence. Your success directly impacts client trust, delivery quality, and business outcomes across integrated marketing, data, and technology initiatives.
The Impact You'll Have:
You'll be responsible for translating ambitious client goals into well-run programs that deliver real results-whether that's launching a digital platform, delivering a large-scale CRM program, or coordinating cross-channel campaign delivery. Clients rely on you to bring structure, visibility, and calm to complex initiatives while keeping teams aligned on priorities, scope, and outcomes.
Internally, you'll serve as a unifying force across strategy, creative, analytics, engineering, and delivery teams. By managing interdependencies, finances, and risk, you'll enable specialists to do their best work while ensuring programs stay on track financially and operationally.
At OneMagnify, program management is not an administrative layer-it's a leadership function that shapes how integrated work gets done at scale.
What you'll do:
Own End-to-End Program Delivery
  • Lead multi-project programs from kickoff through completion, ensuring scope, timelines, and outcomes are clearly defined and delivered.
  • Maintain a comprehensive view of program health, balancing client expectations, delivery realities, and internal commitments.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for program-level decisions, risks, and trade-offs.
Lead Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Orchestrate work across strategy, creative, analytics, engineering, and delivery teams to ensure integrated execution.
  • Lead dependencies across projects and practice areas, keeping teams aligned and moving forward together.
  • Facilitate effective client and internal forums that drive decisions and momentum.
Guide Clients with Confidence
  • Act as a trusted partner to clients, leading program kickoffs, status discussions, and key milestone conversations.
  • Translate complex delivery details into clear, actionable insights for client partners.
  • Drive consistent communication and engagement plans that keep everyone aligned and informed.
Lead Program Economics and Resources
  • Own program financials, including forecasting, budgeting, reconciliation, and invoicing, with a focus on accuracy and profitability.
  • Plan and forecast resourcing needs across programs, partnering with delivery and operations leaders to staff effectively.
  • Support SOW development by defining scope, timelines, and cost implications for new and in-flight work.
Ensure Quality, Risk, and Performance
  • Establish and maintain quality standards across all projects within a program.
  • Proactively identify risks and develop mitigation strategies before issues impact delivery.
  • Track and report on program performance-scope, schedule, budget, and resourcing-using clear, meaningful metrics.
  • Lead retrospectives and lessons-learned activities to continuously improve delivery.
What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in project management, business, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience leading complex projects, with demonstrated ability to coordinate several workstreams or programs simultaneously.
  • Strong foundation in program and project management methodologies, including Agile delivery models.
  • Proven experience managing program financials, budgets, forecasts, and resource planning.
  • Comfort leading client conversations and influencing partners at multiple levels.
  • Proficiency in tools such as PowerPoint and Excel; experience with Jira, monday.com, and Workday strongly preferred.
  • Experience delivering digital, marketing, content, or IT-related initiatives.

Future-Ready Skills (Nice to Have):
  • Experience delivering work in integrated marketing, consulting, or digital services environments.
  • Familiarity with marketing technology platforms, CRM ecosystems, or data-driven customer experience programs.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled workflows, automation, or data-focused delivery models.
  • Experience working within platform-based or enterprise delivery frameworks.
  • Program management certification (PMP and/or PgMP).
