Job description

Job Title: Veterans Program Manager

Salary: $70,000 Annual salary

Schedule: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (On-Site)

Location: Chicago, IL

Team: Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP)

Purpose:

America Works of Illinois is seeking a Program Manager for our veterans program helping military veterans experiencing homelessness with case management, job placement, and housing assistance. The Program Manager will help supervise the program, reporting directly to our National Veterans Programs Director, as well as manage a caseload of veterans. The ideal candidate has case management and leadership experience, and is a self-starter looking to help military veterans discover their strengths, develop short- and long-term goals, and take actionable steps towards self-sufficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide program oversight, including managing the program budget, staff, and partnerships with community organizations and government agencies
  • Regularly provide program updates to the National Veterans Programs Director and Department of Labor
  • Prepare accurate reports on program enrollment and placement numbers during audits
  • Conduct intake, orientation, eligibility screening, and assessments with veterans experiencing homelessness or housing instability
  • Oversee barrier removal before and after job placement, ensuring the participant has the resources and support they need to obtain and retain employment (i.e. housing, clothing, healthcare, childcare, etc.)
  • Develop individualized plans to help veterans become job-ready, including resume preparation, mock interviewing, and barrier removal
  • Regularly meet with participants in-person or over phone/video to ensure program participants are continually progressing towards their professional, personal, and academic goals
  • Maintain detailed case notes, update attendance logs, submit weekly reports, and other administrative tasks on a timely basis
  • Refer clients to vocational trainings, technical skills classes, and other certification programs
  • Meet weekly, quarterly, and annual enrollment and job placement numbers
  • Model professionalism and inclusiveness, cultivate a safe environment for career development, and motivated clients to find full-time employment

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-year degree, relevant experience and/or advanced studies a plus
  • One to three (1-3) years of case management experience
  • Leadership and/or management experience preferred
  • Experience working with military veterans and/or individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Ability to work with people from all backgrounds
  • Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed, and/or Two-Generational methods a definite plus
  • Understanding of workforce development, employment services, and adult education a definite plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint preferred
  • Strong communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
