1st shift (United States of America)Please review the following job description:Underwrites credit exposure for the most complex and largest Not-For-Profit relationships and actively manages a portfolio of nonprofit, foundation, education, religious, cultural, civic, and other mission-driven organizations. Includes day-to-day client interaction, managing portfolio risk, and adhering to all regulatory and compliance guidelines. A critical component of this role is early identification of emerging credit concerns, sector trends, funding pressures, governance issues, liquidity challenges, and changes in donor, grant, reimbursement, or program revenue patterns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Underwriting: Leads the full underwriting process both internally and externally with prospects and clients. Underwrites, structures, and documents new and existing transactions for complex nonprofit relationships, including organizations with multiple revenue streams, donor-restricted funds, endowments, capital campaigns, grant funding, government or reimbursement-based revenue, affiliated entities, pledges, and seasonal or event-driven cash flow. Independently manages the most complex credits and largest relationships by evaluating mission, governance, board oversight, operating model, program performance, fundraising capacity, liquidity, debt service capacity, restricted and unrestricted net assets, cash flow reliability, covenant compliance, collateral support, and long-term financial sustainability. Recommend and models appropriate loan structures while maintaining expertise around the Bank's suite of ancillary products, including treasury, deposit, liquidity, investment, and other solutions relevant to clients. Is accountable for the risk evaluation and associated regulatory compliance requirements.
- Portfolio Management: Accountable for and manages an assigned Not-For-Profit portfolio by monitoring financial performance trends, proactively defines client credit solutions, identifies emerging issues, and follows through for remediation. Responsible for risk rating integrity, annual reviews, financial statement spreading, compliance, and regulatory review. Manages amendments and waivers in the assigned portfolio. Is expected to be anticipatory, forward focused, independent, transparent, and collaborative in identification, communication, and all aspects of risk management.
- Client Calling Effort: Expands client relationships through consistent and direct calling efforts with nonprofit executives, finance leaders, board representatives, development officers, and other key stakeholders. In conjunction with internal product partners, applies knowledge of credit policy, pricing, structure, nonprofit operations, liquidity needs, fundraising cycles, and mission-driven objectives to develop solutions that meet the client's needs and the Bank's risk acceptance criteria.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Partners closely with Relationship Managers and internal product specialists to ensure effective delivery of financing and banking solutions to nonprofit clients through a sector-specific lens. Maintains extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting concepts, donor-restricted and unrestricted resources, philanthropic trends, grant and government funding dynamics, endowment and investment considerations, capital campaign financing, governance expectations, and market trends affecting mission-driven organizations. Understands and articulates sector trends, patterns in the economy, and implications for nonprofit credit risk, and proactively shares information across the Portfolio Management organization.
- Deal Team Management: Expected to manage these tasks by utilizing assigned Associates and Analysts. Mentors and coaches junior Portfolio Managers, Associates, and Analysts on Not-For-Profit underwriting, portfolio management, financial statement analysis, risk identification, client communication, and deal structuring.
- Span of Control: No direct reports, but encompasses regular communication with clients and prospects, Portfolio Management teammates, Relationship Managers, Credit Risk Managers, Credit Review partners, Technology, audit and examiner functions, and other internal and external stakeholders. Teammates in this role are charged with providing an independent current and forward-looking risk view on assigned Not-For-Profit clients, prospects, and portfolios. They author independent risk recommendations including, but not limited to, risk rating, compliance, underwriting, covenant structure, repayment capacity, liquidity adequacy, and nonprofit sector-specific risk considerations. The recommendation is finally approved by the ultimate risk approval officer.
- Problem Complexity: Very complex. Senior Portfolio Managers will be assigned more complex names in the Not-for- Profit portfolio, including large institutions, organizations with affiliated entities, significant capital projects, donor-restricted funds, and endowment reliance entities.
- Leadership / Influencing / Negotiating / Persuading: Teammates in this position are required to develop an independent point of view and provide recommendations to appropriate decision makers. Expected to mentor junior talent and line-of-business partners as appropriate, influence deal structure, support sound risk decisions, and communicate effectively with nonprofit leaders whose objectives may include both financial sustainability and mission impact.
- Project or Program Management: Must be able to handle a large portfolio of complex Not-for-Profit clients while also taking a leadership role in activities outside of day-to-day portfolio responsibilities that benefit the Portfolio Management platform as a whole. This may include supporting process improvement, policy development, nonprofit sector training, portfolio reporting enhancements, and collaboration across credit delivery, risk, and relationship management teams.
- Nature and Area of Impact, including Risk: Must deliver strong credit and underwriting analysis, clear risk rating recommendations, and effective ongoing portfolio oversight.

- Ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

The annual base salary for this position is $155,000 - $185,000
Additional incentive pay is available for this position.
