Job description

This position is responsible for managing the Division's pre and post-award grant activities and its research operations. The Program Manager II (PMII) will oversee the development, preparation, and submission of all grants for the Division and will review each submission for adherence to Sponsor and UAB guidelines, policies, and regulations. In addition, the chosen candidate will serve as a trusted advisor and will work closely with the Division's leadership to review current funding opportunities and deadlines, plan future proposal submissions, ensure sufficient availability of administrative staff for proposal development and submission(s), and track all research operations activities. Reporting to the Division Administrator, the PMII functions as a division representative for research administration to the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine and UAB Vice President for Research.   

Responsible for administratively managing a large or complex University program or multiple programs. Provides input in the development of program plan and objectives with responsibility for achieving objectives within defined parameters. Typically supervises small staffs and are responsible for long range planning. Responsibilities include budgeting, networking/public relations, technical training and assistance, grant and report writing. May handle regulatory responsibilities, contract submissions and identify research funding. May handle event planning and oversight of construction projects.

Key duties and responsibilities include:  

  • Development, preparation, and submission of all grant submissions for division faculty; ensure adherence to grant guidelines and policies. 
  • Assists investigators with preparing Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) checklists.  
  • Develop, prepare, and advise investigative teams on grant budgets.  
  • Manage Just-in-Time notifications and submissions for investigators and the investigative team.  
  • Oversees sub-award activities, including initiating requests for sub-award agreements, building and submitting budgets and justification, scope of work and applicable regulatory approvals.   
  • Tracking, understanding, and disseminating all updates to UAB  NIH grant policy requirements and changes to the Division's staff and faculty.  
  • Develop the Division's submission timeline and ensure sufficient availability of administrative staff for proposal development  submission.  
  • Serve as the point of contact for all communications related to grant submissions and research operations, including sponsor agencies, sub-award sites, internal groups/programs, division staff and faculty.

Salary Range: $51,270 - $83,300

Bachelor's degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
