Job description

The Director of Human Resources is an essential member of the Abaco Systems leadership team contributing to the development and execution of the business's annual strategic plan.
This position is a senior staff level role at an AMETEK Business Unit based in Huntsville, AL, and the individual will play a key role in guiding the strategic direction and leading the efficient execution of activities to profitably grow the business. This role has responsibility for the HR function globally, with sites in Alabama, Texas, the United Kingdom, and Mexico.
This position reports directly to the Abaco Systems DVP/Business Unit Manager, with a strong dotted line to the Aerospace & Defense Division Vice President of Human Resources.

What You Will Do in the Role
  • Serve as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for the Business Unit and the trusted advisor and business partner of the DVP BU Manager
  • Lead the Abaco Systems HR team in full cycle HR responsibilities (hiring, onboarding, development, performance management, employee relations, payroll, etc.)
  • Collaborate with the BU Manager and SLT to assess leadership capabilities, implement targeted development strategies, and drive initiatives that align with Abaco Systems values and accelerate business performance
  • Serve as the key coach to all leaders within the business unit managers on HR policy and leadership principles; recommend improvements to policies, programs, and procedures related to the effectiveness of the HR function
  • Leverage HR KPIs and metrics to make data-driven business decisions
  • Travel required up to 30% to the Business Unit locations

What You Will Bring to the Role
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10+ years HR experience in the manufacturing industry; master's degree with 8+ years HR experience preferred
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in a multi-site leadership role
  • Experience driving transformative change within a manufacturing business; ability to partner with and effectively influence Senior Business Leaders
  • Robust understanding of manufacturing technical talent and operation speed
  • Expertise in leading talent acquisition initiatives and aligning hiring strategies with business objectives
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local employment regulations
  • Working knowledge of a manufacturing P&L; a practical working knowledge of manufacturing concepts (Throughput, Direct Labor Planning, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve productivity, decision-making, work quality, and to reduce costs. The successful candidate must be able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI-generated outputs.
  • Due to the nature of Abaco's business programs and products, applicants must have the legal right to work in the US and additionally must be legally authorized to access export-controlled information and source code.
