Job Summary
The Assistant Director of the Maxwell Theatre for Marketing and Programming is responsible for leading the planning, development, and execution of marketing, programming, and outreach initiatives for the Maxwell Theatre and Lyceum Series. This position supervises the Patron and Customer Services Coordinator, as well as student employees. This position manages the Theatre's event calendar and rental operations, contributes to revenue generation, and supports financial stewardship.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
MARKETING & AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT:
Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies for the Maxwell Theatre, including annual marketing plans and event-specific promotional campaigns.
Increase visibility, audience engagement, and event attendance through effective marketing initiatives.
Collaborate with Maxwell Theatre staff, Enrollment and Student Affairs Marketing, and University Communications & Marketing to ensure cohesive messaging and outreach.
Maximize social media engagement and strengthen connections between students, student organizations, and Maxwell Theatre programming.
Partner with campus stakeholders to develop print, social media, and online marketing campaigns.
Independently complete marketing and design projects when required.
PROGRAMMING & STRATEGIC INITIATIVES:
Lead the development, coordination, and execution of theatre programming and special initiatives.
Cultivate partnerships across the University and surrounding community to maximize the Maxwell Theatre's cultural, educational, and engagement impact.
Partner with the Maxwell Theatre Director to develop and implement fundraising strategies supporting theatre operations and programmatic growth.
Expand and enhance the Lyceum Series and other Maxwell Theatre offerings to support student recruitment, retention, engagement, and campus enrichment.
Align theatre programming with student interests and campus needs.
Collaborate with staff and stakeholders to implement high-quality programs and events.
OPERATIONS & FACILITY MANAGEMENT:
Oversee scheduling and utilization of the Maxwell Theatre, including facility calendar management, event scheduling, and rental operations.
Coordinate theatre resources to support internal and external events efficiently.
Provide direct supervision to the Patron Services Coordinator.
Provide indirect supervision to 10¿15 front-of-house student employees.
Monitor budget performance and assist the Director with financial planning and resource allocation.
ASSESSMENT, REPORTING & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT:
Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators related to attendance, programming effectiveness, student engagement, and operational success.
Use data to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
Support continuous improvement initiatives based on performance data and outcomes.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform additional responsibilities and special projects in support of the Maxwell Theatre, Enrollment and Student Affairs, and University priorities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree from an Accredited College or University and a minimum of 2 years¿ experience marketing, and/or programming related positions required.
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree from an Accredited College or University and 5 years experience in marketing and/or programming related positions preferred.
One or more years marketing experience in an arts related organization preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
SKILLS
Knowledge of programming, marketing, data driven decision making, budget tracking, and supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe, and marketing tools.
Desirable knowledge in general theater operations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B10
Salary: $52,500.00/Annually-$65,600.00/Annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
