Summary:
Assist the current Activity Therapist with providing therapeutic activities for patients during hospitalization.
Responsibilities:
1. Assists in planning and organization of creative programs that will motivate residents both physically and mentally encompassing program diversity. Implements recreation programs via 1:1 visit, bedside visit, small and large group settings.
2. Assists residents in maintaining or restoring cognitive performance, psychosocial well-being, behavioral awareness, physical well-being, and spiritual awareness.
3. Maintain equipment and supplies at appropriate levels for the provision of services.
4. Works closely with the appropriate interdisciplinary team members regarding program implementation to provide continuity with other resident services. Observe and report any changes in residents condition to charge nurse. Follow individualized plan of care and goals for residents.
5. Assists in resident motivation to attend scheduled programs, transporting residents to and from the program location and implementing the program session, utilizing correct body mechanics.
6. Completes documentation on a daily and/or as needed basis as directed by Activities Therapist and Program Manager.
7. Maintains a courteous, friendly manner and respects the rights and dignity of each resident.
8. Attends in-service programs. Attends departmental staff meetings.
9. Contributes to interdisciplinary care meetings.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school Diploma / GED
  • 1 year of experience as Recreational Therapist Aide
  • Experience in a nursing home or hospital setting preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
