Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Teen Program Director is responsible for leading the teen program at the O.T. Sloan Club, with primary responsibility for creating and managing a high-quality, engaging, and outcomes-driven experience for members ages 13–18. This position oversees the daily operations of the Club’s dedicated teen space and is responsible for teen recruitment, retention, program planning, relationship-building, supervision of assigned staff and volunteers, and implementation of leadership, character development, and workforce readiness experiences.

The Teen Program Director ensures teen programming aligns with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina’s priority outcomes of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship, while also intentionally incorporating Future Ready and workforce readiness experiences that prepare teens for life beyond the Club. This role works closely with the Unit Director and organizational leadership to create a teen-centered environment where young people feel safe, connected, challenged, and prepared for success in school, work, and life.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Education, Experience & Skills

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Lead the O.T. Sloan Teen Program

  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate engaging teen programming and activities for members ages 13–18.
  • Oversee the daily operations, culture, and supervision of the Club’s dedicated teen space to ensure it is safe, welcoming, organized, and teen-centered.
  • Create and maintain a consistent schedule of high-quality teen programming aligned with BGCCC’s mission and youth development priorities.
  • Ensure teen members are actively engaged in a variety of experiences that support academic success, leadership development, healthy lifestyles, workforce readiness, and character development.
  • Foster a positive Club climate where teen members feel a sense of belonging, ownership, accountability, and connection to caring adults.

2. Drive Teen Recruitment, Participation, and Retention

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, engage, and retain teen members at the O.T. Sloan Club.
  • Build strong relationships with teen members and families to encourage consistent participation and connection to the Club.
  • Design programming, incentives, events, and leadership opportunities that reflect teen voice and interest while supporting positive youth development outcomes.
  • Monitor teen attendance and participation trends and adjust programming strategies to improve engagement and retention.

3. Implement Teen Leadership & Workforce Readiness Experiences

  • Integrate leadership development, service learning, college and career exploration, financial literacy, digital literacy, and job-readiness experiences into teen programming.
  • Support teen members in developing Future Ready competencies such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, goal setting, and adaptability.
  • Coordinate teen-focused activities such as career panels, guest speakers, mock interviews, resume workshops, field trips, service projects, and leadership clubs.
  • Collaborate with BGCCC leadership and community partners to connect teens to enrichment opportunities, credentialing opportunities, workforce exposure, and post-secondary pathways when appropriate.
  • Encourage teen participation in Boys & Girls Club programs and recognition opportunities such as Keystone, Youth of the Year, and other leadership and workforce-related initiatives.

4. Supervise Staff, Volunteers, and Teen Program Operations

  • Supervise and support assigned teen program staff, interns, and volunteers, providing guidance, coaching, and accountability for performance and program quality.
  • Assist in orienting and training staff and volunteers assigned to the teen area, ensuring they understand program expectations, safety requirements, youth development practices, and behavior management procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Unit Director and Club team to support smooth daily operations, member behavior support, family communication, and Club-wide events and initiatives.
  • Maintain program areas, materials, and equipment in a safe, organized, and functional manner.

5. Manage Program Administration, Reporting, and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records related to teen attendance, participation, activities, incidents, achievements, and other required program documentation.
  • Track program outcomes, teen engagement data, and notable successes or concerns and communicate regularly with the Unit Director.
  • Assist with planning and monitoring the teen program budget, supplies, and activity needs as assigned.
  • Ensure teen programming is delivered in accordance with Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina policies, safety standards, and operational expectations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, organizational initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts as assigned.

6. Promote the Teen Program and Build Visibility

  • Increase awareness of teen opportunities at the O.T. Sloan Club through outreach, announcements, family communication, social media collaboration, and community engagement.
  • Highlight teen achievements, special events, and leadership/workforce readiness activities in partnership with Club leadership and communications staff.
  • Represent the teen program positively with families, school personnel, community partners, and supporters.

QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, education, human services, recreation, social work, workforce development, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in youth development, teen programming, afterschool programming, education, workforce development, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with middle and high school youth, with demonstrated ability to build relationships, manage group dynamics, and create engaging programming for teens.
  • Strong understanding of positive youth development and the social, emotional, and developmental needs of adolescents.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement quality youth programs and activities.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and support staff, interns, and/or volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage schedules, records, program logistics, and multiple priorities.
  • Experience with leadership development, college/career readiness, workforce exposure, or teen enrichment programming is strongly preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within a designated period of hire.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record preferred if transportation responsibilities are assigned. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Ability to plan and implement fun and exciting quality programs for youth.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support special events, evening teen activities, and occasional weekend programming as needed.
  • May assist with transportation, including driving a Club vehicle, if authorized and approved.
  • May assist with parent conferences, member support conversations, and Club-wide initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the O.T. Sloan Club and Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff, members, volunteers, and the Unit Director to

exchange information, coordinate programming, address issues, and support a positive Club

environment.

External

Maintain contact as needed with parents/guardians, school personnel, community partners,

guest speakers, and other organizations to support teen engagement, resolve issues, and

strengthen program opportunities.

This position requires the ability to move throughout the Club facility and actively supervise youth in a variety of settings for extended periods of time. The role requires frequent standing, walking (including long distances), bending, reaching, and communicating with youth, families, staff, and community members.
