Attalon’s Murrieta site specializes in advanced optical manufacturing for critical aerospace and defense programs. Our team produces high-performance optical components and coatings that enable precision targeting and durability in the harshest environments.

Business Development Director

The Business Development Director reports to the Chief Growth Officer, but is the dotted line, sales single point of contact for the GM / VP. Aligns and coordinates efforts required to execute the Segment level strategy. Responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities that align with the company’s strategic growth priorities as approved by the Segment GM. This role focuses on building high value executive relationships and crafting differentiated value propositions, in partnership with segment general management, that set the company apart from competitors. The role combines strategic insight with proactive hunting, cross-functional collaboration, and strong execution skills.

Key Deliverables

  • All below in alignment with the VP / GM to ensure consistency of purpose and execution
  • Consistent development of a qualified pipeline that meets or exceeds coverage ratios (typically 3–5x quota).
  • Accurate reporting of pipeline status, revenue projections, and pursuit milestones.
  • Documented opportunity development plans for top pursuits, including strategy,influencers, and competitive positioning.
  • Monthly Market intelligence reports that guide product strategy, pricing, and positioning
  • Develop pursuit strategies, win themes, and competitive positioning in conjunction with PLL / Division Director
  • Negotiation strategy development in conjunction with PLL / Division Director
  • TAM, SAM, SOM analysis
  • Government budget analysis.
  • Manage consortiums, coordinate white paper submissions.
  • Market Mapping - view of current industry programs, upcoming programs and opportunities forAttalonto take share.
  • Market expansion results, such as entry into new verticals, partnerships, or ecosystems.
  • Successful conversion of strategic pursuits from early discovery to closed-won outcomes.
  • Satisfy proposal development requirements for assigned customer opportunities

In Scope

  • Partner with PLLs/ Division Director on IRAD / technology investment strategy, portfolio shaping, and overall strategy.
  • Identify new markets, new customers, and long-range captures.
  • Growth in executive level relationships with prospective customers and program offices.
  • Manage new customers and drive pursuits to build out portfolio.
  • Shape requirements and influence early funding cycles.
  • Own customer relationships for advanced programs.
  • Own end customer and development/research agency relationships.
  • Effective internal collaboration that results in solution designs matching prospect requirements.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's Preferred
  • 15+ years BD/Sales Experience in Aerospace & Defense
  • 7+ years of diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization and people motivation skills
  • Experience with government contracting and acquisition cycles
  • Familiarity with PAE offices requiring sensors suites and optics
  • Able to hold a security clearance (TS/SCI preferred)

For California, the salary range for this position is: $137,500 - $247,500 per year
