Position Overview and Objective:
The Driver Training Center Coordinator plays a crucial role in shaping the safety and efficiency of our transportation operations by designing, executing, and managing thorough training initiatives for all personnel involved in passenger vehicle transportation and operation. This position requires an in-depth understanding of industry regulations, safety standards, and best practices as outlined by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). The Coordinator will ensure that every training program not only fully complies with USDOT guidelines but also actively enhances the company's safety culture and operational excellence. By developing, implementing, and continuously improving comprehensive training programs, the Coordinator ensures that all employees are fully equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to perform their duties safely, efficiently, and in line with company and regulatory standards. This leadership is vital in fostering a safety-first environment, reducing risks, and maintaining our commitment to the highest standards in transportation safety and service quality.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Training Program Development
    • Design and develop training programs that cover all aspects of passenger vehicle transportation, including safety protocols, operational procedures, and regulatory compliance.
    • Ensure that training materials are up-to-date and reflect the latest USDOT regulations and industry's best practices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation, or a related field. Position-related experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a degree. Applicants without a degree should include a statement detailing their qualifying experience with the application.
  • Four (4) years of verifiable, full-time professional training and safety experience, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of USDOT regulations and requirements for passenger vehicle transportation.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and management capabilities, with a proven ability to motivate and inspire teams.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with others.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher) and training software and tools.
  • Be willing to travel occasionally to various locations for training sessions and assessments.
  • Be prepared to work outside regular business hours when necessary to support training schedules.
  • Must be an excellent communicator with strong listening skills, build strong relationships, be flexible and open-minded, negotiate effectively, solicit performance feedback, and manage constructive criticism.
  • Skilled in computer use, able to adapt to new technology, stay abreast of changes, learn new programs quickly, and use technology to improve productivity.
  • Ability to create training material for both in-person and virtual instruction.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a properly insured vehicle

Required License and/or Certification
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid Hawaii Commercial Class B driver's license with air brakes, passenger, and student endorsements. If not currently a commercial license holder, the successful applicant must obtain, at a minimum, a Hawaii Commercial Class B driver's license with air brakes, passenger, and student endorsements within the 6-month probationary period. Must have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Pursuant to 49 CFR Part 672, the selected candidate must enroll in the Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCP) and successfully complete the training courses within the three-year timeframe.
