Job description

Description Help shape the events, activities, and programs that our community will remember. Under supervision, to plan, oversee, and evaluate City recreation programs, senior citizen programs, and community activities and services; to organize, assist with implementing, and schedule special/cultural events, and specialized recreation, social services, and sport/athletics programs. May provide technical and functional leadership to lower-level positions.

Examples of Duties Assists with the coordination and implementation of recreation, leisure, and promotional activities and seasonal, public relations, and special events and makes recommendations concerning new programs; Assist with planning, organizing, scheduling, implementing, and directing comprehensive and diverse programs and activities, including children's services, youth and adult classes, cultural arts programs, special events, sports and aquatic programs, tournaments, senior citizen programs, and Market Night; Assists with overseeing volunteers as required; Assists with program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to provision of community services; Provides information and referrals to the public, school officials, and community groups about programs being offered; Maintains records and files related to assigned areas of responsibility; Assist with maintaining an inventory of supplies and materials for assigned areas of responsibility; Assist with researching cost estimates for budget recommendations and provides justifications for needed supplies and equipment; Coordinates program registration, including the collection and accounting of monies; Assist with the evaluation of program attendance, participant responses and cost, and makes recommendations regarding the continuance or cancellation of programs; Assist with compiling information for reports and research demographics; Practices preventive maintenance programs to properly care for facilities and equipment and inspects recreation areas and facilities to ensure proper and safe use of equipment; Responds to inquiries and complaints; Participates in long-term planning to assess future recreation needs; and Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Experience: Two years of experience in coordinating recreation/and or community services programs. Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree, or equivalent college units, with major course work in business administration, marketing, communications, public administration, or a related field is highly desirable.

Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California driver's license. Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates at time of hire. Special Requirements: Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to travel to different sites and locations; Regularly required to talk or hear.

Required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms; Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; Ability to lift up to 40 pounds; Exposure to outdoors, heat and noise; Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and weekends.
