Job Title: Program Assistant
Reports To: Program Lead
Location: 227 E. Oak Avenue, Porterville, Ca
Job Type: Part-time – 9 hours a week (Monday 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM and Saturday 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM.                                       Potential Start Date - July 1, 2026
Pay Range: $17.25/ Hourly

Position Summary:

Valley Adult Day Services is seeking a compassionate and energetic Program Assistant to support our participants' daily care and engagement. This role is vital in promoting the safety, dignity, and quality of life of older adults and adults with disabilities who attend our Adult Day Program.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Support & Care:

  • Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including toileting, feeding, ambulation, and hygiene, following CNA best practices.
  • Monitor participants for any changes in health status and report concerns to supervisory staff.
  • Assist with administering basic health services under supervision (e.g., blood pressure checks, medications).
  • Ensure participant safety, including fall prevention and mobility support.

Program Engagement:

  • Support and lead recreational, social, and cognitive activities to stimulate participant involvement.
  • Encourage and assist participants in joining activities based on their abilities and interests.
  • Assist with transporting participants within the facility.

Administrative & Operational:

  • Maintain accurate documentation related to participant care and activity involvement.
  • Assist with meal service and light housekeeping duties, including food preparation, cleaning activity areas, restrooms, and common spaces.
  • Follow and support infection control and safety protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Experience working with older adults or individuals with disabilities (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist with physical transfers as needed
  • Bilingual abilities a plus (e.g., Spanish)

Work Environment:

This position works in a lively Adult Day Program setting. Must be comfortable working with participants who have cognitive impairments, physical limitations, or behavioral challenges.
