JOB DESCRIPTION
The Geosciences Program is seeking motivated student employees to assist with geology laboratories and support a variety of program activities. Student assistants will help faculty prepare and maintain teaching laboratories, organize equipment and supplies, provide general program support, and assist with occasional field activities.
Some positions include driving university vehicles for program-related activities. Students hired into designated driving positions are expected to perform driving duties as part of their assigned responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with laboratory preparation, setup, and cleanup.
  • Organize, maintain, and inventory laboratory materials and equipment.
  • Assist faculty during laboratory sessions as needed.
  • Perform general program support tasks, including organizing teaching spaces and materials.
  • Assist with occasional field activities and other program events.
  • Participate in occasional half-day or full-day Saturday field trips with advance notice (dates to be determined).
  • Drive university vehicles for program activities when assigned.
Students hired into positions with driving responsibilities are expected to perform those duties as part of their assigned position and cannot opt out after employment.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Colorado Mesa University student.
  • Eligible for MavWorks or Federal Work-Study.
  • Reliable, dependable, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Available during multiple work periods listed below.
  • Able to perform light lifting and move laboratory materials and equipment as needed.
Driver Requirements
Students assigned driving responsibilities must:
  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Receive approval through the University's HireRight driver authorization process.
  • Meet all university requirements for operating university vehicles
Preferred Qualifications
  • Geosciences majors are strongly preferred.
  • Students from other majors may be considered if qualified and if program needs require additional staffing.
