Security Assistant Journeyman
Hill Air Force Base
Ogden, Utah HX5 is an award-winning provider of engineering, research and development, and technical services to clients such as NASA and the Department of Defense. Founded in 2004, HX5 is a fast-growing veteran- and woman-owned company with locations nationwide. HX5 is currently seeking a Security Assistant Journeyman to support Hill Air Force Base, located in Ogden, UT. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide technical advice and security support to multiple collateral programs and where specifically called for, SCI programs within the directorate
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with Information Protection (IP) leads, program managers, contracting officers and anyone else as needed to ensure a standardized and accurate protection integration focus throughout the acquisition and sustainment life cycle of directorate programs
  • Assist in the development and writing of Operations Security (OPSEC) plans, transition plans, emergency action plans, transportation plans and any other security documents as needed for the customer
  • Review program documentation for public release, to include ensuring CUI has proper markings, classifications and distribution statements per DoD and AF guidance and provide accurate feedback to IP Leads about document disposition ability
  • Provide classification guidance and assistance for all collateral and SCI (where needed) programs
  • Advise on counterintelligence threats and trends to assist unit and program assigned personnel
  • Assist with development of Security Classification Guides, Program Protection Plans, Security Operating Procedures (SOP), DD Form 254s and other key acquisition/security program documents as directed by the IP lead
  • Provide classification reviews of inbound and outbound correspondence.
  • Prepare, process, and distribute (ship and receive) inbound/outbound classified mail that is integrated with a singular government accountable mailing program.
  • Assist with preparing classified packages, courier forms and maintain receipt records of such dispatches
  • Perform destruction of classified materials and CUI
  • Provide reproduction support for classified materials both paper or in electronic format.
  • Review, track, and monitor security clearance via Defense Information System for Security (DISS) to ensure all personnel are properly accounted for along with compliance with applicable personnel security standards.
  • Ensure personnel security clearances are kept current and access is verified prior to allowing access to classified material.
  • Ensure any specific collateral access set is either processed or staged for IP lead to process (i.e. North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Formerly Restricted Data/Restricted Data/Critical Nuclear Weapon Design Information access requirements).
  • This also includes identifying any missing SF-312/Non-Disclosure Agreements and alerting IP lead of missing annotations as required
  • Prepare, process, and/or review Visitor Access Request (VAR) for accuracy and access eligibility. Ensure smooth access ability is given to our personnel by ensuring visit certifications are received timely and accurately by receiving units
  • Assist with researching, processing, filing, and maintaining inbound and outbound VAR notices
  • Input foreign visit and foreign contacts in DISS when self-report is received
  • Assist IP lead/ IP Personnel Security Office with initiation of Electronic Questionnaires for Investigation (e-QIPS)/Standard Form 86 for military and government civilian employees assigned to their respective work center
  • Assist IP lead/ IP Personal Security Office with military and government civilian fingerprinting for new and upgrade clearance request
  • Assist IP Lead with inspection preparations and Management Internal Control Toolset and/or other inspection platform artifact creation as directed
  • Conduct effective entry and exit inspections along with any other random anti-terrorism measures as directed by unit, installation or higher-level anti-terrorism authority
  • Assist in maintaining facility access control, to include visitor control/escorting and access badge creation, issuing and tracking
  • Perform data entry to the security system database
  • Follow and enforce the Government’s standard operating procedures or Operating Instructions
  • Assume duties and responsibilities of Communications Security Responsible Officers or Secure Voice Responsible Officers in accordance with applicable regulations or instructions and as needed by the IP lead
  • Assume duties and responsibilities of alternate equipment custodian, as required
  • Provide security support to Classified Processing Areas (CAP) or Secure Work Areas (SWA) to include, but not limited to: Exercise delegated access control to CAPs/SWAs o Assist in accomplishing end-of-duty day security check to open/close CAPs/SWAs
  • Assist IP lead with security container combination changes and maintenance to include reporting needed container repairs as they are discovered to IP lead.
  • Assist IP lead with monitoring secure spaces, assisting with secure space builds/projects and controlling/operating Secure Video Teleconferencing/Video Teleconferencing systems
  • Assist with alarms activity where applicable; setting, testing, coordinating maintenance and updating alarm response letters and other associated administrated support
  • Assist with classified meetings and all associated support requirements to ensure their proper successful execution
  • Provide support for the security awareness and education programs which includes but is not limited to creating or modifying presentations, brochures or posters.
  • Giving verbal, in person security/force protection briefings to individuals or groups either formally or in ad hoc format
  • Perform miscellaneous administrative support functions as directed by the Contractor site lead and/or the IP lead Required skills may include but not be limited to:
  • Understanding of counterintelligence threats and trends
  • Familiar with security policy/manuals and the appropriate DoD and Air Force directives, manuals and instructions
  • Familiarity with DISS
  • Basic knowledge of the DD Form 254 and how it is incorporated in the Air Force acquisition process
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment and effectively interact with numerous DoD, military/civilian personnel and industry partners
  • Demonstrated maturity and ability in handling sensitive information regarding acquisition programs, exercises, personal matters of a potential derogatory nature, or military activities with discretion and sound judgement
  • Able to accurately convey information both in written and verbal format
  • Understanding of cloud-based classified systems and connections is preferred
  • Other requirements may include but are not limited to:
  • Must be willing to travel within organizations direct area of responsibility
  • Must be willing to adapt to contingency schedule if required by unit in unusual cases of emergency or critical mission support need
  • Must be able to identify classified documents/information, and know proper safeguarding
  • Must complete all required security training in accordance with DoD and Air Force regulations for those filling the role of security assistant.
Education and Experience:
Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: * Master's or bachelor’s degree in a related field, and three (3) years relative experience, three (3) years of which must be DoD experience.
  • Or seven (7) years of directly related experience, five (5) years of which must be DoD experience. 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time onsite position requiring 40 hours per week and offers a flexible work schedule Monday through Friday during core business hours.   Other Position Requirements: * Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret clearance by date of hire. 
  • Must be able to travel, including air travel.
