The Amherst College Department of Religion seeks a scholar of Hebrew Bible and ancient Judaism for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning on July 1, 2027.
The candidate's primary field of expertise should be in Hebrew Bible and ancient Judaism in its various representations (e.g., Ancient Near East, Mediterranean and Sassanian diasporas, and Rabbinic Judaism), with competency in the broader sweep of Jewish history, thought, and practice. Competency in archaeological studies is also desirable. The candidate will be also expected to engage with larger theoretical conversations in the study of religion and to contribute to the department's methods and theory course. This appointment is ideal for candidates with a strong commitment to teaching and an active research program. The teaching load is two courses per semester, in addition to advising senior honors theses. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the life of the department and the college.

The expected salary range for this job opportunity is $90,000 to 125,000. The salary offered will vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to relevant education, training, and experience, tenure status, and other nondiscriminatory business considerations.
