Job description
The successful candidate will normally teach three course sections per semester, including the East Asian Civilization I and II survey sequence and upper-division East Asian History courses. A PhD in History with an emphasis in East Asian history is required. A specialty in Modern East Asian History is preferred. ABDs near completion will be considered, but they must have a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. The History Department at the University of Alaska has a large and growing number of majors and is known for its research productivity, excellent teaching, and collegial working environment.

To thrive in this role, applicants should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to teach core and specialized courses in the department's curriculum; demonstrated potential to support and mentor students; demonstrated commitment to student success; and knowledge of innovative teaching practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D degree in History, with emphasis in East Asian History, by the time of appointment. A specialty in Modern Eastern Asian History is preferred. Demonstrated capacity for scholarly or creative activity, including publications, presentations, or a defined research agenda.
Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the college/university level.
Preferred Experience: Evidence of effective teaching across modalities, including online or hybrid formats; experience with curriculum development, program assessment, or course design; familiarity with or experience in grant writing and project management; experience teaching or working in an open-access, public university; evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration or applied/community-engaged scholarship; experience or demonstrated potential in contributing to interdisciplinary programs; and knowledge of regional issues or communities relevant to the institution's mission (e.g., Circumpolar North, Alaska Native communities, rural engagement).
Position Details:
This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, AK. This is a full-time, 9-month base, tenure-track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
