What is a Professional Listener job?

A Professional Listener is someone who provides a safe, nonjudgmental space for others to talk and be heard. They actively listen, offer emotional support, and help people process their thoughts without giving advice or therapy. This role is often sought by those who need to express themselves without fear of criticism. It can be used in personal, professional, or emotional contexts. Professional Listeners may work independently or through listening services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Professional Listener position, and why are they important?

To excel as a Professional Listener, one needs exceptional active listening abilities, strong interpersonal communication skills, and often a background in counseling, psychology, or social work. Familiarity with case management databases, note-taking tools, and sometimes certification in mental health first aid or peer support training are commonly beneficial. High emotional intelligence, patience, and the ability to maintain confidentiality help individuals stand out in this position. These skills ensure trust-building, effective support, and ethical practice while managing sensitive conversations.

What are some of the common challenges faced by Professional Listeners, and how are they typically addressed?

A common challenge for Professional Listeners is managing emotional fatigue or compassion fatigue, as the role involves regularly hearing about clients' stressful or distressing experiences. To address this, many organizations offer regular supervision, peer support groups, and access to mental health resources to support the listener’s well-being. Another challenge is maintaining clear boundaries and professionalism, for which ongoing training and adherence to established protocols are crucial. Emphasizing self-care and setting realistic expectations helps Professional Listeners sustain their effectiveness and avoid burnout in this rewarding but emotionally demanding role.

Location: Warrenton, VA (Formerly Warrenton Foreign Car Inc.)

Employment Type: Full-Time, Monday–Friday (No Weekends)

Compensation: $20-$26/ Hour  Base Salary + $0.90/ Flagged Labor Hour Bonus

About the Shop:

We are building on a 50-year legacy of excellence in the Warrenton community. Under new leadership, we are modernizing our operations with a focus on high-level diagnostics, premium import service, and a paperless, team-first environment. We are a Tekmetric facility dedicated to total transparency and fixing it right the first time.

The Role:

As our Service Advisor, you are the face of the shop. You aren't just selling repairs; you are building trust and managing the entire customer journey. You will act as the vital bridge between our expert technicians and our valued clients, ensuring every customer feels heard, informed, and respected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Consultation: Greet customers professionally, listen to their concerns, and translate complex technical jargon into understandable terms.

  • Workflow Management: Use Tekmetric to manage shop capacity, schedule appointments, and coordinate with technicians to ensure on-time delivery.

  • Digital Transparency: Lead our Digital Vehicle Experience (DVI) by sharing inspection photos/videos with clients to build trust and maintain high approval rates.

  • Estimating & Sales: Prepare accurate cost estimates for parts and labor, justifying the value of recommended services without being "pushy".

  • Proactive Follow-Up: Follow up on recent repairs and declined estimates to foster long-term customer loyalty and repeat business.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience as an Automotive Service Advisor is highly preferred. Familiarity with European and Import vehicles is a plus.

  • Tech-Savvy: Proficiency with shop management software (Tekmetric experience is a major advantage) and digital communication tools.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional active listening, empathy, and the ability to stay calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.

  • Sales Talent: A natural ability to engage in conversation and a drive to meet performance goals like ARO and Effective Labor Rate.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • Modern Tools: We provide the best digital tools (Tekmetric) and high-end equipment to make your job smoother.

  • Growth Culture: Regular performance reviews and coaching to help you hit your goals and advance your career.

  • Education Support: We provide an annual budget for professional development and technical training.

  • Stable Schedule: Enjoy your weekends—we are a Monday–Friday operation.

  • Full Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plus paid vacation and holidays.
