What is a professional chef?

Professional chefs are trained culinary experts who prepare, cook, and present food in restaurants, hotels, or other food establishments. They are responsible for menu planning, ingredient selection, and ensuring the quality and consistency of dishes. Their skills are developed through formal education, apprenticeships, and hands-on experience in the kitchen.

What are some common challenges professional chefs face in a busy kitchen, and how can they effectively manage them?

Professional Chefs often encounter challenges such as high-pressure environments, time management issues during peak hours, and coordinating with a diverse kitchen staff. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to delegate tasks are crucial for maintaining smooth operations. Additionally, staying adaptable and calm under pressure helps chefs ensure quality and consistency in dishes, even during the busiest service periods.

Job description

Do you thrive on keeping things organized, catching the little details others miss, and creating exceptional customer experiences?

Salt Lake Culinary Education (SLICE) is Utah's award-winning culinary school, offering an accelerated professional chef program, hands-on recreational cooking classes, private events, corporate team-building experiences, catering, and more. Every day is different, and every event is an opportunity to create an unforgettable experience for our students and guests.

We are seeking an exceptionally organized, detail-oriented Office Manager & Admissions Coordinator to become the operational hub of our growing company. If you enjoy juggling multiple priorities, creating order from chaos, and take pride in getting every detail right, we'd love to meet you.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, excels at organization, communicates professionally, and takes ownership of their work. Success in this role comes from being proactive, highly accurate, and committed to helping our team deliver outstanding experiences every day.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Admissions & Student Relations

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective students by phone, email, and in person.
  • Guide prospective students through the admissions process from initial inquiry through enrollment.
  • Schedule and conduct campus tours.
  • Follow up with prospective students and answer questions about our programs, financing options, and scheduling.
  • Process enrollments and maintain accurate student records.
  • Build positive relationships with prospective and current students while providing exceptional customer service.

Office & Operations

  • Build and maintain recreational classes, professional programs, and private events within our registration system.
  • Create accurate class schedules, event timelines, chef packets, and supporting materials.
  • Coordinate calendars, staffing schedules, facility usage, and operational logistics.
  • Maintain clear communication between office staff, chef instructors, and event staff to ensure every class and event is well organized.
  • Manage incoming phone calls, emails, and customer inquiries.
  • Maintain website content, reports, spreadsheets, and administrative records.
  • Assist with bookkeeping and other administrative duties as needed.
  • Support the team with additional projects and responsibilities as our company continues to grow.

REQUIRED SKILLS FOR THIS POSITION

  • Minimum one year of administrative or office management experience.
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new software.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.).
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and help wherever needed.
  • Dependable, accountable, and able to work independently while collaborating with a team.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating schedules or events.
  • Experience maintaining website content.
  • Experience creating content for social media.
  • Experience with CRM, registration, or scheduling software.
  • Interest in food, cooking, hospitality, or culinary education.

Accuracy Matters

This role is responsible for creating classes, coordinating schedules, maintaining student records, and supporting events. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being organized and takes pride in getting the details right the first time. If you're someone who naturally double-checks your work, notices small details others overlook, and enjoys keeping everything running smoothly, you'll thrive in this position.

Benefits

  • Paid Time Off
  • Positive, supportive team environment
  • Opportunity to work in a fun, fast-paced culinary environment
  • Opportunities for professional growth and development

If you're looking for more than just another office job and want to play an important role in an award-winning culinary school where your organization, professionalism, and attention to detail truly make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
