What is a professional audio engineer?

A Professional Audio Engineer is a specialist who manages the technical aspects of sound during the recording, production, mixing, and reproduction processes. They work in various environments such as music studios, live concerts, film, and television to ensure the highest quality of audio output. Their responsibilities include setting up audio equipment, capturing and mixing sound, and troubleshooting technical issues. Professional Audio Engineers must have a good ear for sound, technical skills, and familiarity with industry-standard equipment and software.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a professional audio engineer?

To thrive as a Professional Audio Engineer, a strong foundation in acoustics, signal flow, and audio recording techniques is essential, typically supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Pro Tools or Logic Pro, as well as experience with mixing consoles and microphones, is commonly required. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help professionals excel in fast-paced studio and live environments. These skills ensure high-quality sound production, efficient workflow, and successful collaboration with artists and production teams.

  • Individual professional malpractice liability insurance policy
  • Individual NPI number
  • Comfortable learning new online tools and technology
  • Reliable internet connection and video-capable device

Perks

  • Clients Ready for You: Talkspace provides new client referrals
  • Flexible Schedule: Set your own schedule with no minimum requirement for your weekly hours or caseload size

  • Clinical Support: Provider Support and IT teams available for any technical or platform related questions
  • Free CEUs: NBCC and ASWB accredited continuing education credits via Talkspace-provided Learning Communities
  • Health Perks: Access Stride Health to support your health and financial well-being

Compensation

    • CA: $90 per hour for live chat, audio, or video sessions (this rate is prorated for 45 and 30 minute sessions)
    • DC, MA, MD, NY, VA, WA: $78 per hour for live chat, audio, or video sessions (this rate is prorated for 45 and 30 minute sessions)
    • All other states: $70 per hour for live chat, audio, or video sessions (this rate is prorated for 45 and 30 minute sessions)
  • Additional compensation for asynchronous messaging
  • Earn a new client engagement bonus, varying by plan type

Please note: If you treat clients in multiple states, different rates will apply accordingly. Rates could be subject to change and may vary over time based on the market and shifts in demand.
