Viterra Systems, based in the Southern California area, is currently hiring a Purchasing Manager in Duarte, CA.

Summary :

The Purchasing Manager's role is to maximize the efficiency of the flow of goods from the ordering of raw materials to the storage/warehousing/delivery of raw materials to internal customers. Ensure accuracy in ERP master data record and upkeep of such records for 3-way match. The role must work effectively across all departments including sales, engineering, accounting, and human resources, and will collaborate with various internal departments, external suppliers, and logistics partners to streamline operations, improve productivity, keep inventory areas organized, and enhance customer satisfaction.

This position is directly accountable for accurate purchase order placement, inventory control, inventory management, forecasting, min/max levels, and MOQ’s.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage selected suppliers, negotiated contracts, established service level agreements, and ensure timely delivery of goods, accurate quantities, correct payment terms, and pricing (3-way match).
  • Develop and manage SOP’s for purchase orders, purchase requisitions, packing slips, inventory updates in ERP, moving inventory, obsolete inventory, inventory transfers and usage, inventory adjustments, WIP and BOM accuracy. Develop and implement training modules for new hires and existing employees.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive process improvements and implement best practices.
  • Manage the recruiting, staffing, termination, performance evaluation and employee development activities for the department in alignment with company’s established SOP’s.
  • Recommend and manage the department’s budget, including capital expenditures, operating expenses, labor cost, shrinkage and wastage in line with company’s goals and objectives.
  • Manage and procure office supplies, factory hand-tools, power-tools, and miscellaneous production accessories (i.e., copy paper, labels, notepads, etc.) for all business units.
  • Other duties and special projects as need arises.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of inventory management experience preferably in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of inventory management experience in a management or leadership role.
  • Ability to develop, lead, and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Must have the ability to create and sustain a culture of accountability.
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to drive change.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills; can effectively interact with all levels of management.
  • Must be able to travel to visit warehouses, vendors, suppliers and other fabricators, including overnight travel.

Training amp; Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business administration or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • APICS (American Product and Inventory Control Society) supply chain certification a plus.
  • Proficient in MS Suite and ERP-type software in managing the planning process required (i.e. NetSuite, SAP)
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification a plus.
  • Exceptional Excel skills are required (VLookup, Pivot Tables, Macros)

Supervisory Duties:

The Purchasing Manager coaches and mentors his/her direct reports including site-level supply chain team members in their professional growth and development. Provides them with tools, training, and various resources to help them stay current in their respective area of responsibility.
