Job description

Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of 2 years machining experience and/or training. Technical school training, apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience operating CNC machines and other metal fabricating machines may be required. Knowledge of basic trade mathematics, basic computer skills, and ability to read blueprints required and understanding of machinist handbook.  Responsibilities
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required of the Machinist I. Machinist I uses knowledge of various raw materials and products, (i.e., metals, resin, aluminum, steels, alloys, and other composite materials/systems) along with machining characteristics and parameters to select proper cutting tools and correct machine feeds and speeds to perform high production and repetitive job duties. Makes general distinction between materials, (i.e., simple steels, aluminums, ceramics). Operates a limited variety of machining equipment as compared to Machinist II, III, & IV, (i.e., lathes, metal cutting saw, vertical millers, grinders) along with hand and power tools. Uses various standard machine attachments, (i.e., rotary tables, magnetic chucks, taper and universal milling attachments). Selects appropriate cutting tools according to the type of material being machined and correct machine feeds and speeds necessary to perform the required operation. Machine adjustments are primarily conversational and performed according to pre-programmed requirements/clear work orders. Uses, sets up, and maintains measuring/calibrated instruments/tools, (i.e., micrometers, verniers, gauges, indicators, scales, and various standard or preset gauges) to check the accuracy of dimensions.
Reads and interprets clear, straight forward blueprints, program readouts, and technical directives to determine and obtain materials and cutting tools for the job and to visualize the finished part and critical surfaces, dimensions, and tolerances.
