What is a product merchandiser?
A product merchandiser’s duties are to develop sales strategies for retail locations to improve overall sales. As a product merchandiser, your responsibilities include visiting stores or working in a retail outlet, collecting and analyzing visual data, conducting customer surveys, and determining how a location can improve its sales. From your analysis, you can develop new schematics or a plan-o-gram which is a chart of a retail shelf which helps the store owner better improve sales through changing the way they display products or utilize space to increase customer engagement.

What are some typical challenges product merchandisers face when working with multiple retail locations?
What is the difference between Product Merchandiser vs Retail Associate?
| Aspect | Product Merchandiser | Retail Associate |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | High school diploma or equivalent; some roles may prefer experience in merchandising or marketing | High school diploma or equivalent |
| Work Environment | Off-site locations, warehouses, or store displays | In-store customer service and sales floor |
| Employer & Industry | Retail, manufacturing, or wholesale companies | Retail stores, supermarkets, and department stores |
