This role in summary
Whirlpool is currently seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Senior Engineer New Product Launch.
This role will lead New Product Launch and large capital projects for Cooking at the Cleveland, TN Operations.
This role will be located at the Cleveland, TN OperationThis role is 1st shift 8am to 5pm M-F, and onsite.
In this role you will lead projects to execute Product Leadership into North American Manufacturing Locations.Work directly with cross functional leadership partners consisting of NAR Manufacturing Engineering, NAR manufacturing sites, Procurement, Product Engineering, Product Categories, Quality, and AME (Advanced Manufacturing Engineering)
Your responsibilities will include
  • Manufacturing (MFG) lead for all MFG requirements to support new product launches and large capital programs ranging from concept creation, management of project scope and execution of all manufacturing requirements:
    • Includes: factory analysis, CAPEX, new assets, manufacturing footprint changes, engineering to pilot builds, PPAP, safe launch execution, manufacturing toll gate reviews, production ramp plans, obsolescence plans, vendor risk management, factory contingency plans
  • MFG lead representative on project core teams
  • Work cross functionally with marketing, consumer design, product design, quality, procurement, safety, MFG engineering/ support, and materials teams to insure all deliverables are understood and met
  • Engineering build planning & execution between MFG and engineering teams
  • Plans and prepares MFG to establish lead time of production operations to meet program delivery dates
  • Alignment of manufacturing requirements to WPD (Whirlpool Product Development), APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), and WCM (World Class Manufacturing) workstreams to ensure manufacturing site readiness.
  • Facilitate factory analysis including capacity, equipment footprint, material flow/storage, labor/cost roll-up, asset reuse, and CAPEX submission
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing & office environment, walking long distances, standing on feet for long periods of time, minor lifting (generally 30 lbs or less)

Minimum requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience working on the new model introduction of technical projects (such as Concept Development, Design Validation, Production Validation, Start of Production Open to Ship)
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment

Preferred skills and experiences
  • Success in leading projects from inception through completion with direct responsibility for execution of vertical start-up
  • Independent - with guidance in only complex scenarios
  • Advanced technical degree and/or, Black Belt certification
  • Experience in large appliance manufacturing operations environment
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams consisting of engineering & operations professionals
  • Understanding & practical application of fundamental quality tools & statistics used for problem solving
  • Experience in applying technical knowledge to solve a range of problems
  • Strong communication skills. Effectively sharing & obtaining information from internal & external parties
  • Ability to work cooperatively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong decision making skills, with a drive to proactively obtain complete & accurate information.
  • Knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and Product Development processes
  • Understanding and practical application of fundamental quality tools & statistics used for problem solving
  • PC proficient in Google and SmartSheets
  • Familiarity with Sheet Metal manufacturing (stamping, bending, welding) and Assembly operations
  • Self-starter with strong communication skills; able to translate technical concepts into business impact, gain stakeholder buy-in, and thrive in a 24/7 operation
