Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Engineering Business Development Manager - (Team Sports) at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing and cultivating strategic technology complex partnerships in support of company and product growth across Garmin's core markets delivering both financial and technological value to Garmin and our customers enabled through professionalism, business expertise, and thorough business processes.
Essential Functions
  • Cultivate partnerships with integrity/respect to address business needs/priorities
  • Create long-term value for Garmin by developing relationships with partners to secure complex or complicated technology, content, and/or intellectual property rights through positive business terms to support Garmin products
  • Support Garmin product growth through licensing, partnerships, & joint development opportunities that will enhance & support all segments
  • Initiate new partnerships swiftly to support product innovation and speed to market
  • Leverage pitch skills, tools and methods to position Garmin with partner for the best results with these methods and skill will be used continuously throughout the partnership
  • Negotiate business terms/expectations with strategic technology partners and coordinate with administration, engineering, marketing, and legal stakeholders leading to completion of a formal agreement
  • Cultivate relationship with partner to build rapport while also securing additional monetary value and/or marketing value for Garmin
  • Maintain knowledge of emerging technology & communicate industry insights to engineering and others through demonstrating technology, partner category expertise and strategy for negotiation
  • Ensure compliance with partner intellectual property branding requirements and coordinate with other departments within Garmin to ensure contract compliance
  • Leverage technology to help expand the Garmin brand
  • Proactively engage in technology business development and support Garmin's product development technology licensing & development needs
  • Possible supervision of others who would take on more detailed assignments

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline AND a minimum of 7 years relevant experience
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years business development and/or marketing experience relevant to Garmin's business needs for this role
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven track record of responsiveness and outstanding relationship building/networking
  • Exhibits a proven ability to deal with confidential company matters
  • Must possess the ability to enthusiastically relate to technology, demonstrated passion for our products, and active lifestyle participation in our target markets (automotive, marine, recreation, or fitness)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to the challenges of other departments and stakeholders
  • Must demonstrate a keen interest and experience in the consumer electronics, technology and mobile markets
  • Exercise sound independent judgment, exhibit entrepreneurial thinking and have a demonstrated ability to act effectively with little direction
  • Must be positive, detail/quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and work proactively in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision
  • Must possess demonstrated proficient computer skills using Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Access

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's of Business Administration (MBA) Degree
  • 7 + years applicable work experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree in a technical discipline, including Electrical, Software, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Demonstrated understanding of current development technologies across various platforms
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Project management experience relevant to successful performance of essential functions of this job description
