What is a process TD engineer?

A Process TD (Technology Development) Engineer is a professional who works on developing and optimizing manufacturing processes, often within the semiconductor or electronics industries. Their role involves researching, designing, testing, and refining processes to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement new technology, troubleshoot process issues, and ensure manufacturing runs smoothly. Process TD Engineers play a critical part in advancing technology nodes and scaling up production of new devices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a process TD engineer?

To thrive as a Process TD Engineer, you need a solid background in chemical, electrical, or materials engineering, typically with a relevant degree and experience in semiconductor manufacturing processes. Familiarity with process control systems, data analysis tools (like JMP or MATLAB), and industry certifications such as Six Sigma are often required. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills are essential for collaborating across teams and driving process improvements. These skills and qualifications are critical for optimizing production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and supporting technology development in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

How does a process TD engineer typically collaborate with other departments during technology development projects?

Process TD Engineers work closely with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to develop and refine semiconductor manufacturing processes. They frequently participate in joint meetings to troubleshoot process issues, align on technology roadmaps, and ensure that new process solutions meet both technical specifications and production requirements. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as Process TD Engineers often serve as a bridge between R&D and factory operations, translating complex technical findings into actionable process improvements.

What is the difference between Process Td Engineer vs Process Development Engineer?

AspectProcess Td EngineerProcess Development Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Chemical, Mechanical, or related engineering; often requires experience in process testingBachelor's or Master's in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering; focus on process innovation
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, R&D labs, testing facilitiesResearch labs, pilot plants, manufacturing support
Employer & Industry UsageOil & gas, chemicals, manufacturingPharmaceuticals, chemicals, specialty materials
Common Search & ComparisonYesYes

The Process Td Engineer primarily focuses on testing, troubleshooting, and validating process technologies in manufacturing environments. In contrast, the Process Development Engineer emphasizes designing and developing new processes or improving existing ones during the R&D phase. Both roles require strong technical skills and engineering credentials but differ in their focus on testing versus development.

Job description

Company Description
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering professional with strong expertise in simulation and process development to join our team supporting next-generation SSD product development and manufacturing.
This is a niche and high-impact role where you will combine mechanical simulation, engineering analysis, and process innovation to enable scalable, reliable, and manufacturable designs. You will play a critical role in bridging product design and high-volume manufacturing (HVM).
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Simulation & Engineering Analysis (Core Focus)
  • Perform advanced mechanical simulations using ANSYS, SolidWorks, or equivalent tools
  • Analyze stress, strain, deformation, fatigue, and failure mechanisms in components and assemblies
  • Evaluate product performance under thermal, environmental, and operational conditions
  • Conduct simulations supporting SSD rework, disassembly, and structural integrity
  • Conduct simulation on semiconductor packaging and solder joint reliability
  • Develop simulation workflows to verify and validate design concepts.
  • Identify potential design risks and propose mitigation strategies during disassembly.
  • Translate simulation results into actionable design and process improvements

Process Development & New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Define and develop end-to-end SSD manufacturing process flows, including tooling and equipment configurations
  • Lead process development, characterization, and qualification for new products
  • Establish and validate manufacturing recipes and parameters for HVM transfer

Rework Technology & Mechanical Solutions
  • Develop advanced rework techniques, including PCBA component replacement and product disassembly
  • Evaluate new approaches to support complex mechanical structures and miniaturized designs
  • Perform risk assessments (TRA) and implement process controls across the product lifecycle

DFM/DFA & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Provide strong mechanical input into DFM/DFA reviews
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Ensure smooth transition from design to NPI to high-volume production
  • Work closely with ODMs and suppliers on process and technology development

Qualifications
Education
  • Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering (strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience may be considered

Experience
  • 3+ years (Master's) or 5+ years (Bachelor's) in:
    • Mechanical simulation and analysis
    • Process development, NPI, or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries:
    • Semiconductor
