Job description

Title: Process Safety Engineer
Location: Freeport, TX

Salary: $100,000 - $150,000
Schedule: 9/80; 5/8's
Relocation Available

Focus: The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting the plant in development and implementation of regulatory, Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP), and industry best practices into operations. This role provides technical expertise and leadership in implementing and sustaining process safety programs across the site. This position influences decisions, mentors other plant personnel, and leads process safety initiatives across the site to ensure risk reduction and operational excellence. 


Process Safety Engineer Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead the plant's revalidation and implementation of LOPA/PHA and resolve identified gaps.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables for compliance with process safety standards and RAGAGEP.
  • Manage and lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), HazOp, FMEA and other PSM-related studies for existing processes, projects, and modifications.
  • Develop, enhance, and implement process safety fundamentals and operating disciplines.
  • Drive improvements to the plants process safety culture through operations trainings; being an active participant in MOC reviews, procedure audits, and supporting the plant in process safety related root cause analysis (RCA). 
  • Execute gap assessments against Olin process safety fundamentals through collaboration with facility resources and subject matter owners.
  • Support facilities in understanding and application of Olin process safety fundamentals and loss prevention principles.

Process Safety Engineer Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree* in Engineering; Chemical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of chemical industry experience, Process Safety Management, or similar process safety function.
  • Experience with plant improvement project implementation and leading process hazard analysis (PHA) reviews. 
  • Working knowledge of OSHA's PSM (29 CFR 1910) and EPA's (40 CFR 68) regulations.
  • Functional knowledge of consequence modeling, PSM and RMP program development, quantitative risk analysis, fault-tree analysis, SIL/Sis, and relief systems preferred.
  • Prior Olin experience in a relevant position preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) and possess a valid US Driver's license.
