GENERAL PURPOSE
The position of Project Manager provides the skills necessary for project execution that meet the needs of the customer and stay within established schedule requirements and budgetary constraints.
NATURE OF THE POSITION
The Project Manager is responsible for the complete management of each assigned project from "Order Entry" to delivery of the product to the customer. Therefore he/she must coordinate regularly with the customer's and/or contractor's engineering and purchasing departments regarding system design, specification, and delivery requirements. Coordination with PHOENIX Purchasing is required for material and component selection, with emphasis on cost control within the established project budget. Coordination with PHOENIX Design Engineering is required to create fabrication packages that define the PHOENIX product in sufficient detail for a fabricator to manufacture and assemble in a manner that assures operational parameters and customer specification requirements are met, including quality and workmanship requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review and understand the customer's equipment and delivery requirements to prepare a project schedule and submittal document package to the customer defining how PHOENIX plans to meet those requirements.
2. Coordinate with and assist the Design Department in the development of equipment fabrication packages that meet the customer's requirements and define what is expected from PHOENIX fabricators and sub-vendors clearly and accurately.
3. Create and maintain a purchasing requisition document for each assigned project. Coordinate with and assist the Purchasing Department in the selection of qualified suppliers and the issuance of purchase orders to ensure a quality product, delivered on schedule.
4. Monitor project progress, identify potential and actual issues, and resolve those issues so that the customers’ needs are met.
5. If necessary, provide failure analysis investigation of designs to identify the "root" cause of the failure and provide corrective action recommendations to prevent recurrence.
6. Investigate alternative designs, materials, and component selection to reduce costs and improve the quality of PHOENIX products.
7. Perform administrative functions such as preparing reports, developing procedures, complete performance evaluations, and providing general company support, and other duties as required.
KNOW-HOW
This position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of design and project experience. Years of experience may be considered for education. Knowledge and experience with computer applications including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing are required, with solid proficiency in AutoCAD or other design software(s) strongly preferred. Oral and written communication and people skills are essential.
PROBLEM SOLVING
The major challenge of this position is to complete all assigned projects on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with the customers’ requirements and specifications. The Project Manager must identify the actions required to meet this challenge and proactively initiate activity to ensure all goals are accomplished.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the ability to work outside of business hours from time to time as required by PHOENIX.
TRAVEL
This position requires some occasional travel (typically less than 10%).
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Project Manager is accountable for the success of assigned projects based upon customer satisfaction, his/her design decisions, work quality, and impact on the project costs and product performance. The position is directly accountable for his/her personal safety, the image that the customer has of PHOENIX, and for performing all assigned duties in a thorough and professional manner. The Project Manager reports directly to the Engineering Manager.
