Job description

OVERVIEW 

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Process Department Manager is to effectively plan, coordinate, manage and control all the raw sugar and processing operations for the Refinery. Responsibilities include sucrose losses and production cost while maintaining the highest product quality while minimizing environmental issues and maximizing efficiencies. The Assistant Process Manager also has the responsibility for meeting and maintaining established safety, sanitation, and environmental regulations. 

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Act as a safety leader for the team, ensuring all protocols are adhered to and issues resolved to keep the team safe. 
  • Review daily and weekly process operation with the Process Team Managers to improve overall Refining Efficiencies 
  • Review current product inventory level and anticipate customer demand with Logistics to assure adequate order fulfillment. 
  • Guide the daily and weekly activities of the Process Team Managers and Supervisors to ensure proper prioritization based on business need. 
  • Review the previous day's operational outcomes with the Process Manager to create plans to mitigate production issues which could affect customer delivery, product quality, or production demand while proposing solutions. 
  • Review and prioritize maintenance and cleaning schedules to assure that repairs and cleaning prioritize safety, quality and cost. 
  • Develop and implement plans to continuously improve departmental performance while balancing short- and long-term objectives. 
  • Determine the long-range needs of the department and develop plans that implement solutions through capital projects. 
  • Work with Process leadership to develop required training, cost reduction, and other necessary programs or initiatives within the department to help achieve overall plant goals. 
  • Understand unit operations efficiencies and improve operations to minimize sucrose losses. 
  • Develop and lead employees in the transition to a culture of accountability. Give feedback as necessary in accordance with established plant policies and procedures while maintaining a high level of fairness and uniformity. 
  • Utilize Laboratory data and/or on-line process analytical instrumentation to troubleshoot production issues. 
  • Work cross-functionally daily and on special projects to achieve Plant and Company goals. 

WORK EXPERIENCES 

  • 3 or more years of experience leading other leaders of operations in a unionized manufacturing environment 
  • Experience building/developing sustainable programs with lean, TPM, six sigma, etc 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • BS/BA Technical degree from an accredited college/university required or equivalent in Cane Sugar Refinery Management Experience. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 

  • The Assistant Process Manager directly leads the Process Team Managers, Process Supervisors, and indirectly leads the Process Engineers and hourly union team members.

LOCATION OF ROLE 

Baltimore, MD 

SALARY PAY RANGE: $96,000 - $178,000 plus bonus 

  • The pay rate for the successful candidate will depend on the candidate's qualifications and prior experience. 
  • Benefits include healthcare (medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs) available the first of the month following 30 days of employment, 401(k) with match, life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability, vacation, holiday and sick time.
