The Specification Sales Specialist supports commercial lighting sales by working in conjunction with outside sales personnel to meet the needs of lighting specifiers in the Maryland, District of Columbia, and/or Virginia markets.ย ย ย

A day in the life of a Specification Sales Specialist may include the following:ย 

  • Collaborating closely with the outside sales team to provide comprehensive support for client projects and regularly providing support and/or assistance to outside sales personnel to ensure client needs are met while outside salesperson is on the road, with other clients, or generally unavailable to assistย ย 
  • Proactively identify sales opportunities to achieve or exceed sales targetsย ย 
  • Engaging with existing and potential clients to understand their lighting needs and recommending appropriate solutions, serving as the line card liaisonย ย ย 
  • Developing a deep understanding of the agency's lighting product offerings, staying updated on industry trends and new technologiesย 
  • Providing expert guidance to clients regarding product features, benefits and technical specificationsย ย 
  • Educating clients on the unique value propositions of our lighting solutionsย ย 
  • Building and nurturing strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor for their lighting requirementsย 
  • Responding promptly to internal and external customers inquiries, addressing concerns, and providing exceptional serviceย ย 
  • Creating detailed lighting layouts, pricing exercises, bills of material, energy savings estimations, sequences of operation, and moreย 
  • Hosting in-person client gatherings or meetings, representing the company in a positive and professional mannerย ย 
  • Helping with the set-up and break-down of such eventsย 
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy, and up-to-date sample room, placing sample orders as needed and retaining sample tracking dataย 
  • Performing administrative duties, such as attending meetings, preparing notes, tracking job progress, maintaining orderly customer job files and customer database, etc.ย 
  • And last, but not least, everyone is expected to step up and help when needed. So, you can plan on performing other duties as assigned.ย 


Specialization 1: Liaison with internal departments Quotes and Project Management, and externally, Lighting Designers and leading team workflowsย ย 

  • Partner directly with Quotes and Project Management teams, acting as liaison between these departments and the specification sales departmentย 
  • Work directly with lighting designers on special pricing, coordinating custom lighting fixtures, and supporting their needs and providing "concierge service" to these clientsย ย 
  • Funnel information and feedback to VP of Specification Salesย 
  • Monitoring workflows and clearing obstacles for greater efficiencyย 
  • Monitoring progress, sharing knowledge and best practicesย 
  • Creating solutions to problemsย 
  • Onboarding employees new to your department or functionย 
  • Educating others for greater cross-functional understanding, participation, or adoption of specific methodologies, etc.ย ย 
  • Acting as back-up to other team membersย 


Specialization 2: Liaison with internal departments Lighting Calculations and Controls and leading team workflowsย 

  • Oversee the day-to-day activities within the lighting calculations function. Coordinating with internal and external (3rd party calc providers)ย 
  • Ensure efficient turnaround of work product, while monitoring workloads of internal team members and external contractorsย

  • Partner directly with Controls teams, acting as liaison between these departments and the specification sales departmentย

Compensation

The information below reflects the anticipated initial base salary range. Should an employment offer be extended, the base salary offered will account for several factors, including but not limited to experience, skills, education, certifications, etc. Depending on an individual's job-relevant qualifications, the range may be exceeded.

  • Specification Sales Specialist: $80,000 - $100,000 annual salary
