Job description

Who We Are:
The Gill Corporation-Maryland has long been a leader in providing high-quality, lightweight structural core materials to the aerospace, marine, construction, rail, and industrial markets. We specialize in a wide variety of structural honeycomb core materials. By utilizing broad engineering expertise along with sophisticated 5-axis CNC machining and special processing, we have the ability to deliver solutions that are responsive to customer needs.
Compensation for this role: $80K - $125K, commensurate with experience
Summary:
Utilizes Aerospace Engineering standards to develop efficient operations required to manufacture, assemble, or process products that meet customer-derived drawings and specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Maintains high production floor visibility, recognizing operators as customers of the work performed by engineering.
  • Provides daily production support, investigating and troubleshooting processes, and implementing solutions.
  • Understands the properties of all types of honeycomb material, including metallic and non-metallic types.
  • Drives all programs to meet and exceed company expectations for quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Defines or assists in defining manufacturing process steps and sequences of operations.
  • Implements, monitors, and maintains efficient manufacturing processes and workflow, conducts time studies, and creates or modifies routings.
  • Improves existing operations, incorporating quality, safety, and productivity enhancements for increased efficiency and cost savings.
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures and Processes, Standard Work Instructions, assists training, and audits workcenters to ensure conformance.
  • Understands and interprets 3D models, engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, primary design features, tolerance stack-up, and design intents.
  • Responds to internal non-conformances utilizing various problem-solving tools (5 whys, fishbone, 8D, etc.) to determine root causes, eliminate recurring errors, and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinates and tracks the progress of Continuous Improvement initiatives for areas of responsibility.
  • Evaluates RFQs, Project Scope, and reviews PO requirements, working with other departments to estimate material costs, run times, possible cost reductions, and close the feedback loop.
  • Utilizes statistical methods (control charts, process capability, etc.) to monitor and analyze manufacturing data, make improvements, and measure progress.
  • Accurately designs tools, generates sketches, and validates dimensions utilizing Pro-Engineer software.
  • Performs material and processes R&D as assigned.
  • Researches and recommends new process equipment or methods to reduce labor costs, improve equipment performance, and increase throughput.
  • Understands the effects raw material changes have on processes and makes recommendations for use.
  • Provides technical support for program start-up.
  • Manages all First Article Purchase Orders for assigned programs; develops Statements of Work defining tool design requirements and acceptance criteria, creates schedules, and provides technical support to the tool supplier.
  • Communicates (both written and verbal) and interacts with the external and internal customers in a professional manner.
  • Works in a safe manner following all departmental and plant safety rules. Reports any unsafe work conditions to the Safety Manager, supervisor, or management.
  • Other duties assigned.

Qualifications and Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, or industrial engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Fluent in CATIA, AutoCAD and Pro-Engineer preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of honeycomb core materials and characteristics.
  • Extensive experience in process documentation.
  • Good working knowledge of CNC machining processes and tools.
  • Basic MRP and estimating experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working in ISO9001 facility (AS9100 preferred).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to write reports and speak in front of groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Must have English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, write, understand, and communicate the company's operating procedures and policies.
