PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Manufacturing Process Engineer is responsible for developing, standardizing, and maintaining enterprise-wide manufacturing processes and visual work instructions across all PPI facilities. This role serves as the primary owner of manufacturing standard work systems, ensuring processes are documented consistently, accurately, and in alignment with safety, quality, productivity, and training objectives.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

More specifically, the employee owner will:

  • Develop, standardize, publish, and maintain visual manufacturing work instructions and standard work documentation across all PPI facilities.
  • Serve as the enterprise owner of manufacturing documentation standards, including templates, formatting, revision control, publishing workflows, and document governance practices.
  • Translate manufacturing processes, routings, engineering prints, time standards, and operational knowledge into clear, accurate, and effective operator instructions using visual and written communication methods.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Industrial, and Quality Engineers, supervisors, operators, and training personnel to ensure manufacturing processes and documentation reflect current best practices and standardized methods.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts focused on reducing variation, improving training effectiveness, reducing reliance on undocumented process knowledge, and increasing consistency across manufacturing operations.
  • Support new product introductions and process changes by developing and updating manufacturing processes, standard work, and work instructions to ensure successful production implementation.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of manufacturing processes and work instructions to verify accuracy, compliance, effectiveness, and alignment with current production methods.
  • Evaluate and support implementation of digital manufacturing documentation and connected-worker technologies that improve accessibility, standardization, and manufacturing execution on the production floor.

  • Experience with CAD, photo-editing, document-authoring, or digital work-instruction software preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related business and manufacturing software systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize work effectively, and operate successfully in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.


EDUCATION – EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or related) or a technical degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering Technology, Applied Sciences).
  • 3+ years of experience in one or more related areas: manufacturing, industrial, quality, or process engineering.
  • Experience developing and maintaining manufacturing work instructions, process documentation, standard work, or operator training materials preferred.
  • Experience with document-control systems, revision management, and digital work-instruction platforms preferred.
  • Experience interpreting engineering prints, routings, BOMs, and manufacturing process documentation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing-related software systems; experience with CAD, photo-editing, or document-authoring software preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud when on the production floor and moderate when working in the office.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Steel-toe safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection when in the production area.
