What we are looking for:
Yazaki is looking for a Supervisor to join our Core EDS Engineering team in Canton, MI.
Working in alignment with the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Supervisor will lead and guide an engineering team to develop and support engineering processes, tools and resource management through training, technical problem solving and process improvement activities. The supervisor will Identify resources, skills training, and other support needed to meet established targets. The supervisor will communicate the team's progress and status of assignments with internal groups or externally, as required.
What you will be doing:
  • Pre-screen team requests for expenditures. Review and approve expense reports. Participate in program/department budget planning. Evaluate and propose merit budget allocations for direct reports. Champion creation of Universal Development Plans in area of focus.
  • Ensure daily business deliverables are completed according to appropriate timing. Support team in creative/innovative solutions to resolve issues, while still meeting deliveries (timing, quality, cost).
  • Understand the fundamental technical issues associated with the design of the product and the application of underlying materials/ technologies.
  • Assure adherence to applicable department processes.
  • Understand, deploy, and oversee effective utilization of engineering toolsets to meet customer and business requirements.
  • Ensure proper training, application, and execution of the GPMS (Global Project Management System) by engineering teams.
  • Effectively identify obstacles from internal BU that would impact team's ability to deliver to requirements.
  • Ensure work product supports BU/Core Engineering (Organizational) Objectives.
  • Hold development discussions with staff. Ensure up-to-date training for self and staff. Submit appropriate candidates for promotion.
  • Direct participation in interviewing, hiring, and coaching of subordinate staff members. Review and approve subordinate timecards. Perform yearly evaluations of staff performance and behavior.
  • Ensure compliance and technical competency of self and staff for area of focus.
  • Effectively manage the direct reporting structure to accomplish program deliverables.

What you will bring to the table:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering discipline.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification is idel
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in field of automotive engineering, design engineering, or product development, which two of those years performing core activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts, tools, and best practices, with the ability to evaluate and promote their application within engineering and continuous improvement activities.
