Job description

Job Summary

The Global Engineering Process Lead, Sr. Manager will be responsible for optimizing engineering processes across global Product Line engineering teams. This role drives engineering efficiency, reduces development cycle time, enhances engineering quality, and improves product reliability through best-practice identification, process convergence, deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital engineering tools, and collaboration with business leaders, engineering leaders, quality teams, and tool owners. 
The Global Engineering Process Lead will champion standardized engineering methodologies, including Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), requirements management and traceability, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), design quality processes, and continuous improvement initiatives to establish scalable, repeatable, and efficient product development practices across Vertiv's global engineering organization. 
The Global Process Lead will focus on the overall engineering design and development process and also focus on specific Engineering Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role will partner closely with Engineering teams to ensure alignment between processes, digital tools, data management systems, and engineering workflows while driving adoption of industry best practices and AI-enabled engineering capabilities. 
This position will be based onsite at either our Westerville, OH or Novi, MI locations. 


Responsibilities:

  1. (25%) Improve engineering efficiency by identifying best practices, streamlining workflows, eliminating non-value-added activities, and optimizing global engineering processes to reduce design cycle times and improve productivity.

  2. (25%) Standardize engineering processes across all product lines by driving process convergence, governance, requirements management and traceability, Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies, FMEA best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives that improve quality, consistency, scalability, and design robustness.

  3. (20%) Promote and deploy AI-enabled engineering solutions and digital technologies to automate engineering workflows, improve knowledge management, support requirements traceability, accelerate design activities, enhance engineering decision-making, and improve overall engineering effectiveness.

  4. (15%) Collaborate with engineering tool owners, quality leaders, systems engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure seamless integration between engineering processes, management systems, PLM systems, simulation tools, AI platforms, and product development workflows while maintaining end-to-end requirements traceability. 

  5. (15%) Define, track, and improve key engineering metrics including design cycle time, engineering productivity, rework rates, first-pass quality, requirements traceability compliance, FMEA effectiveness, design release efficiency, and process adherence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field (Master's preferred).
  • Certifications in Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement methodologies are highly desirable.
  • 10-15 years of engineering experience with significant focus on engineering process improvement, product development, design quality, and engineering operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and driving DFSS, requirements traceability, FMEA (DFMEA/PFMEA), risk management, verification and validation processes, and continuous improvement methodologies within engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and improving requirements definition, requirements management, and end-to-end requirements traceability processes across multi-disciplinary engineering organizations.
  • Experience evaluating, implementing, or leading adoption of AI-enabled engineering tools, digital engineering platforms, workflow automation solutions, and advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills related to process optimization, quality improvement, and engineering productivity.
  • Ability to establish performance metrics, analyze trends, and use data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and cross-functional collaboration abilities with experience influencing engineering leaders across global organizations.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with minimal supervision required to identify opportunities and implement sustainable process improvements.
  • Ability to travel internationally and interface effectively with global engineering teams
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • DFSS Green Belt, Black Belt, Lean Six Sigma certification, or equivalent.
    • Experience with GD&T principles and CAD tools deployment.
    • Experience with requirements management and traceability platforms.
    • Experience leading enterprise-wide engineering transformation initiatives.
    • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), digital engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), and engineering data governance practices.
    • Experience facilitating Design Reviews, Root Cause Analysis, DFMEA/AFMEA/PFMEA, and reliability improvement initiatives
    • Experience supporting complex engineered products within data center environment, power systems, thermal management, energy storage, or industrial technology environments.
  • Travel Requirements
    • 10%-20% travel domestically and internationally as required, including participation in global meetings outside normal working hours.
