In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
As a Metrology Engineer at Lam, you will operate cutting-edge metrology technologies, harnessing atomic precision, material science, and surface engineering to push technical boundaries. Your role involves developing new and advanced metrology recipes, defining equipment hardware to meet process requirements, evaluating test data, and coordinating measurement requirements to ensure alignment with process needs. Your expertise and knowledge play a crucial role in our customers' success, making an impact on the next generation of semiconductor breakthroughs. In this role, you will directly contribute to the success of the Defect Metrology Group.
What you'll do
  • Provide expert-level metrology applications support for multiple tool types related to defect inspection and review metrology steps.
  • Develop metrology recipes, and generate and interpret data to support Lam's R&D process teams developing next-generation process equipment.
  • Collaborate with process experts to develop innovative metrology solutions that enable cutting-edge logic and memory process equipment development.
  • Make recommendations that enhance overall lab performance and workflow, help develop metrology lab capabilities, and perform regular evaluation of key metrology assets using SPC methods.
  • Coordinate and drive new metrology tool selection, tool introduction, and tool qualification in support of Lam's cutting-edge semiconductor equipment development.
  • Develop and maintain training modules to train metrology equipment users.Manage vendor field service engineers effectively to deliver maximum asset availability.
  • Provide leadership, clear direction, and guidance to metrology technicians to support execution activities.

Who we're looking for
  • Master's degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field with 3+ years of experience; or a PhD with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience; or a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a team environment and the capability to handle fast-paced, customer service-oriented requests.
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment (bunny suit, safety glasses, masks, gloves).
  • Ability to be flexible and responsive to changing priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications
  • Familiarity with working in a laboratory and on semiconductor equipment, specifically related to metrology.
  • In-depth understanding of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and/or Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • High proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or other similar scientific computing languages.
  • Working knowledge of statistical analysis and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with statistical tools (e.g., JMP, Minitab).
  • Background in ray optics and electron beam optics.
  • Background in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), Plasma-Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD), or Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD).
  • Knowledge of material synthesis and material characterization.
  • Experience working in a collaborative and matrixed environment with diverse teams, semiconductor customers, and/or partners.
