Job description

ChampionX has an immediate need for a Process Engineer II located in Odessa, TX. This position will work both in the office and in the plant, reporting to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager.

This role provides technical support to Safety, Operations, Logistics, Quality, and Maintenance teams, while leading plant process improvements, supporting capital projects, and assisting with new product implementation.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide daily technical support for the assigned production unit.
  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that arise during daily production operations.
  • Enhance process efficiency and production capacity while maintaining or improving quality standards and lowering operating costs.
  • Manage New Product Set-Ups and Scale Ups from R&D and Marketing.
  • Perform and maintain the Management of Change (MOC) Process.
  • Assist with Design Safety Reviews and PHAs where critical thinking is required.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives (CI) to deliver conversion cost targets, unlock throughput, and improve Odessaemployee engagement.
  • Develop and implement small capital projects. This includes the ability to manage a project from conception through construction to startup.
  • Develop and implement plant projects. This includes the ability to do design work such as piping, instrumentation, controls, and equipment specification.
  • Coordinates projects to effect timely, cost-effective, and safe completion within set quality standards.
  • Ensure that all design and project work comply with applicable legislation, accepted engineering codes and standards, and Company policies and standards.
  • Understands Process Safety Management (PSM) procedures to ensure that the site is in compliance.
  • Support the plant safety and environmental/ compliance initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
  • Three years of experience as a Process Engineer in a Chemical Manufacturing Plant

Preferred Skills, Abilities, Knowledge:

  • Advanced Technical Degree
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Process Engineer in a Batch Chemical Manufacturing Plant
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings such as PFDs, P&IDs, isometric drawings, electrical diagrams, and loop diagrams.
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant Safety, Health, and Environmental regulations
  • Experience in troubleshooting and RCA methods
  • Experience in Data Analysis and Data visualization (Power BI)
  • Project management and contractor management experience
  • Strong grasp of Management of Change processes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in and lead cross-functional teams
