Job Description
PRODUCTION PROCESS ENGINEER SUPERVISOR II
FARWELL, MICHIGAN
This role is critical to the success of our polyurethane manufacturing operation. We are seeking an experienced manufacturing professional who understands polyurethane processing, process control, quality requirements, and production floor leadership.
Unlike a traditional engineering role, this position is highly hands-on and spends the majority of the day on the manufacturing floor working directly with technicians, monitoring production processes, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring consistent product quality.
The successful candidate will serve as the day-shift leader for the Process Department, supporting a team of approximately 8 technicians with expected growth to 11 technicians soon. Additionally, the job will require schedule flexibility as determined by need with this person spending time on 2nd or 3rd shift as needed, and responding to emergencies as required.
This position plays a key role in maintaining process stability, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting safe, efficient production operations.
This role is intended to become a key leadership position within the plant and offers the opportunity to assume increasing operational responsibility over time.

  • Improve process stability and product quality.
  • Support scrap reduction and productivity improvement initiatives.
  • Develop the capability to assume increasing leadership responsibility within the plant.

Key Responsibilities
Production Floor Leadership
  • Lead and support Process Technicians during daily manufacturing operations.
  • Spend the majority of the workday on the production floor monitoring processes, equipment, and technician performance.
  • Ensure production activities are performed safely, efficiently, and according to established procedures.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and accountability to technicians.

Process Monitoring and Control
  • Monitor polyurethane manufacturing processes to ensure product quality and process stability.
  • Review production data, process parameters, and operational performance throughout the shift.
  • Verify proper machine setup and adherence to established process controls.
  • Troubleshoot process-related issues and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support efforts to improve throughput, reduce scrap, and increase operational efficiency.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to support equipment repairs, preventive maintenance activities, and process-related troubleshooting.
  • Work with Tooling, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to support production objectives.
  • Assist with prototype, service, and special production activities as required.

Operational Support
  • Review previous shift performance and communicate operational priorities.
  • Participate in daily production reviews and performance discussions.
  • Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, and documentation.
  • Support production during off-hours when significant process-related issues require technical leadership and oversight.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical field OR equivalent combination of education, training, and manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum three years of polyurethane manufacturing and processing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of process control and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience troubleshooting production and process-related issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Preferred
  • Experience leading manufacturing technicians or production teams.
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of quality systems, root-cause analysis, and corrective action methodologies.
  • Basic tooling and production equipment knowledge.
