Job description

Overview

The Senior Process Engineer role helps support the manufacturing of anhydrous ammonia, nitric acid, and ammonium nitrate solution. Also, this position will provide technical expertise for the continuous development and implementation of process improvements that ensure employee safety, provide environmental security and maximize the facility's availability, product quality and cost effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide daily technical support to the Operations, Technical, and Maintenance teams to resolve process upset conditions, equipment issues, and operating issues for immediate and long-term solutions.
  • Monitor process conditions for abnormalities in process parameters or deviations from normal operating instruction.
  • Lead root cause failure investigations for process operating incidents.
  • Review engineering projects to ensure compliance with plant standards and other applicable industry standards.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining plant procedure training material, operating procedures, safe operating condition and limits (SOCL) and safety standards.
  • Complete engineering design and documentation for plant improvement and modification projects.
  • Assist with development and implementation of process controls and safety instrumented systems.
  • Conduct tests to evaluate the efficiency of processes.
  • Participate in safety and environmental initiatives to ensure overall employeeย safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Operations, Technical, and Maintenance teams to establish and achieve process reliability and efficiency goals and objectives of the facility.
  • Assist in the supervision of plant operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or similar required.
  • Experience with anhydrous ammonia and nitric acid production preferred.
  • 5+ years in a similar chemical plant environment.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Comprehension of general chemical engineering to include but not limited to the Haber-Bosch and Ostwald processes, heat and mass balance, fluid dynamics, lab analytics, and other engineering fundamentals.
  • Understanding of process control and safety system design of distributed control systems. Ability to support control logic and system modifications.
  • Capable of troubleshooting process system issues.
  • Competent computer knowledge โ€“ basic information technologies (routers, switches, firewalls, servers), CMMS, database management, analysis software.
  • Understanding of the implementation and management of statistical process control is a plus.
  • Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairs, lift and carry up to 50Ibs, and operate valves.
  • Ability to wear and perform work in required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Possesses complex problem solving, critical thinking, strong mathematics skills, systems evaluation, and operation analysis.
  • Competent computer knowledge โ€“ CMMS, Excel, Word, analysis software, etc.
  • Possesses strong organizational and communication skills.

Work Environment

US Nitrogen, LLC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This position will be exposed to all elements of the weather on the plant site.
