The Scientist, Probe Design is a key member of the R&D team. The Scientist will work within a highly dynamic group to develop and optimize new probe products based on our RNAscope® technology and work closely with our commercial team to identify and support customer needs.
Responsibilities
  • Design made-to-order RNAscope probes for target sequences using proprietary software
  • Answer technical inquiries related to design of target probes & submission of New Probe Requests (NPR)
  • Review NPR forms for accurate and efficient probe designs
  • Utilize Linux command-line tools for sequence alignments (BLAST/BLAT), probe selection, specificity
  • Provide probe product training and troubleshooting for Advanced Cell Diagnostics scientific probe product lines via phone and email
  • Act as primary contact for customers regarding technical issues, as well as providing scientific consultation for research use only inquiries
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Marketing teams to meet the needs of customers
  • Ensure customer service excellence and guaranteed response times by actively monitoring SalesForce queue, inbox, phone calls, and ensuring all issues are resolved in a timely and comprehensive manner
  • Contribute to ongoing new product development and introduction with R&D teams in a laboratory environment
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Probe Design team's knowledgebase
  • Present scientific and product updates to customers and internal teams

Qualifications
Education:
  • PhD with 4+ years of research experience in molecular biology, bioinformatics computational biology or a closely related field

Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of genes and sequences, RNA biology
  • Familiarity with standard bioinformatics tools (Python, R, or equivalent), and a programming language (C/C++, Java)
  • Experience in commonly used biological databases and bioinformatics software tools
  • Ability to work within multi-disciplinary team of computational biologists, molecular biologists, imaging software scientists, biochemists and others
  • Post-graduate experience with experimental design, cell and molecular techniques
  • Must be very adept at diagnosing, troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems with a variety of biological assays
  • Highly self-directed, conscientious, articulate, and possesses excellent presentation and teaching skills

Experience:
  • 2yr+ of experience in Biotech/Biopharma R&D
  • 2yr+ of experience with Linux, Python, Perl or other programming languages
  • 2yr+ of experience with next-generation sequencing platforms or sequencing tools (genomic/epigenomic/transcriptomic)
  • Prior experience in probe design across multiple species
  • Experience in biological sequence analysis tasks such as database searches and multiple sequence alignment tools
  • Committed to total customer satisfaction with outstanding interpersonal skills and professionalism
  • Customer-facing experience with a strong scientific capacity

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to travel ~10% of time
  • Work is performed in office settings.
  • Regular use of computers.
  • Work may occasionally require extended hours to meet project deadlines.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a computer.
