Join a highly skilled perioperative team where your work directly impacts patient safety and surgical outcomes.

The University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center is seeking an experienced PRN Weekend Only Central Sterile Processing Technician II to join our Central Sterile Processing Department. This role is scheduled for one (1) 8-hour day shift per week (7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). This is an outstanding opportunity to become part of a high-performing perioperative services team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.

In this critical role, you will be responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. Your expertise will help ensure every procedure begins with safe, properly processed instrumentation while maintaining compliance with AAMI standards, infection prevention guidelines, and departmental policies. Your work will directly support surgical excellence, patient safety, and efficient Operating Room operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities.


  • Decontaminate, inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and medical equipment.
  • Prepare instrument sets, case carts, and sterile supplies for scheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, completeness, and sterility before distribution.
  • Remove, document, and coordinate repair of damaged instrumentation.
  • Operate and perform routine quality checks on sterilization and decontamination equipment.
  • Complete biological testing, sterilization monitoring, and quality control documentation.
  • Stock, organize, receive, and distribute sterile supplies throughout the hospital.
  • Prioritize urgent instrument requests to support emergent patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with AAMI standards, infection prevention practices, and patient safety protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe Central Sterile Processing environment.
  • Support departmental operations and perform additional duties as assigned.

LICENSURE & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of hospital-based Central Sterile Processing experience required.
